4 week stay in New York City
My husband and I love NYC. We have been going at least once a year for 12 years. He is retiring soon and we want to do the ultimate, stay for 4 to 6 weeks, and feel like we are really living there. We don't want a hotel room. Has anyone done this? Where would we find an apartment to rent for this length of time? Thanks so much.

You might also try Craigslist, New York, the seciton on sublet/temporary.
Also - would you like to swap homes with somebody? I have friends who swap their place in New Mexico for an apartment in New York with all parties happy. A search here will find you home swapping sites. Note swap needn't be simultaneous. |

You've gotten excellent advice so far. There is no shortage of places to find rentals. So much depends on your budget and where in the city you'd like to be. Do you want to deal directly with the owner or go through a broker?
In addition to the websites you've gotten, there are a number of apt/hotels that would have the amenities of a hotel (like front desk, concierge etc.) while providing a studio, one or two bedroom apt with kitchen(ette). affinia.com is a group of all suite hotels. Some of this group's hotels were actually apt buildings before being converted. The San Carlos, the Kimberley and the Alex are 3 more in the east 50's. The Kimberley even has an indoor pool. |
The Affina Group and the NY Salisbury are converted appartments. I've stayed at The Shelburne Murray Hill for as long as 2 weeks in a one bedroom (living/dining room, kitchen, bedroom, bath) and had plenty of room and felt like I lived there.
My parents always stay in a two bedroom appartment (two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, dining room/living room) at the Salisbury and love it. |
