4 days Phoenix - Palm Springs: where to go?
 

We will be in Phoenix for a meeting and then have about 4-5 days to find some fun, interesting things to do before heading to the tennis tournament in Palm Springs in early March. Thought about going down to Tucson area but unclear what else to possibly take in. Not much for shopping, etc, but enjoy beautiful scenery and interesting things. Any ideas? Will be driving to Palm Springs so maybe there is something along the way there.

Forgot to mention we could spend some time in Phoenix area too as we have not been there before!

In PHX - The Musical Instruments Museum; The Phoenix Art Museum are 2 things we just did. What do you like to do? Outdoor stuff - hiking?
Will you have car? Apache Trail is neat.
Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen West is wonderful.
Do you like baseball? Spring Training games.
Heard Musuem - great southwest stuff

The Sonoran Desert Museum is great.
Mission San Xavier del Bac

Sedona (2 hours north of Phoenix)has spectacular red rock scenery.

There is very little of interest between Phoenix and Palm Springs

Detouring up to Flagstaff will double the time to Palm Springs - but given you have four days, that shouldn't be a problem LOL. En route, Sedona is beautiful (you could overnight there), and the drive up the local highway past Slide Rock State Park is stunning (and in part a steep climb not for the faint of heart!).

If you go north of Flagstaff about 1/2 hour, I enjoyed scenic Sunset Crater Volcano/Wupatki National Monument:
http://www.nps.gov/sucr/parkmgmt/flag_parks.htm - an interesting mix of a volcanic area and Indian ruins. (Do a search online and you'll find hiking trail recommendations and other info.)

I'd consider that the weather going up to Flagstaff and Sedona at that time of year could mean snowy roads.

Thanks for all the suggestions--we will have a car, which I forgot to mention. Will do some more research and look forward to the sun! (I do realize that the Flagstaff area can be cold--have been to Grand Canyon and so will not plan on that for this trip)
