4 days in Orlando
I have four full days in Orlando and I have read that each attraction is much busier on certain days of the week.
I have come up with the following for avoiding the big crowds where possible and would be grateful for any thoughts. We will be there in late September. -Sunday - Islands of Adventure -Monday - Busch Gardens -Tuesday - Blizzard Beach or Wet n Wild (any thoughts on which has the best slides etc?) -Wednesday - Kennedy Space Center I plan to fit other things into this once I have sorted out the main attractions on each day. The article I read was written pre-IoA opening so I'm not sure about what that will be like on a Sunday. |
You shouldn't have crowds during that time of year on any day. It's a great time to visit our city. I would do Wet'n'Wild - it has many more slides than Blizzard Beach and is far less expensive with lots of coupons floating around. Also, why travel all the way to Tampa for Busch Gardens unless you're looking for the "zoo" part. IoA has far greater roller coasters and rides and you will already have done that. Have you done Seaworld, Universal Studios (one of our favorites) or any of the Disney Parks? They are much better than BG and right here in the city. If you have AAA you will get discounts to all of these places except the Disney Parks - no discount to those anywhere!

The weather hould be great in late Septmber and we dont have many crowds then either.
I agree with Travelnut - if you havent done a Disney park - you need to. And again - it is the best time of year to visit them. I also would pick Wet & Wild. Busch Gardens is a wonderful park - but it depends on what you are looking for. The roller coaster experience is much greater at Islands. I also would suggest a visit to Sea World. I hadnt been in a number of years and was there about a month ago and really enjoyed the day. Do you know where you are staying? Have a great trip! |
Thank you for you replies.
We are staying at the Crowne Plaza Universal for 5 nights (got it for $50 per night on Hotwire). We are all in our mid-twenties and the Disney parks didn't really look as good for an older age group. I don't want to do a Disney park just for the sake of it. How about Epcot, possibly instead of Busch Gardens? We have all done Sea World in San Diego and no-one seems that fussed to do it again in Florida. Thanks for the votes for WnW - I was leaning towards Blizzard Beach so I'll have a rethink about that. I see it as Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach vs the Bomb Bay at WnW for the best slide ride? Am I picking the quietest days for each park so far or won't it matter so much at that time of year? |
Might I suggest Islands of Adventure on a weekday when a lot of the locals would be working instead of playing?! I have an annual pass to both of the Universal parks and they are both great. And Universal has two brand new attractions. Shrek 4D is awesome. If you liked the movie you will like the experience. Islands has a lot of stuff that you can ride to get cooled off, not just roller coasters. Also great shows! And much more reasonably priced restaurants than Disney! I would highly recommend the restaurant across from Poseidon's Fury (which is also a great show!). Also Universal has just recently started the machines for their most popular rides that you scan your ticket and get a time to return and get to the front of the line. They have limits to their uses. You can't get another express pass until the first one has expired. If at all possible I would get hold of a map of whatever parks you decide to visit and plan ahead! I believe Universal has a website where you can download or print a map at Universal.com. I'm sure that both Sea World and Disney have something similar. Best of luck and enjoy you're stay in our lovely state!

I would definitely do Epcot or Universal over Busch Gardens. We've been visiting both since my kids were young and they're now both in mid 20s and still enjoy Universal the best. I don't think you'll have crowds on any of the days you've pick, although just to be sure you might want to switch Sunday and Wednesday. Also, if you want to see the BEST show ever go to Cirque de Soleil - it's absolutely fantastic. Pricey, but we've been 3 times and will go again when our next set of company comes!

Just a reminder - don't forget to check online auctions like Ebay when it comes to Cirque du Soleil La Nouba tickets. I have gone twice with tickets I purchased on Ebay ($30 vs. $70)

As a former Orlando resident, I also would vote for WetnWild. Less expensive and many more water slides/rides.

For LOADS of information on Universal, Seaworld, Disney parks, and other things in Orlando, go to www.disboards.com They have forums for Disney, Universal, and Seaworld where all your questions will be answered.

Another good website for theme parks is www.themeparkinsider.com
They have tips, hotel ratings, park ratings and news and rumors. (PS IOA was our fav park but MGM and Epcot were both high on the list also in our twenties at the time). |

We went in out late twenties and have no kids, and our favorite parks were - Island of Adventure, Universal Studios and MGM Studios. MGM has great rides also.- Mickey's Rockin Roller Coaster is great along with Tower of Terror and others. I would do MGM Studios/Epcot over Busch Gardens. If your looking for animal adventure, check out Disney's Animal Kingdom. Blizzard Beach looks fun. We didn't go there. I also recommend Universal Studios. They have some cool rides also. It's right next to Island Of Adventure. Parks are adjacent to each other. Have Fun!! |
Universal's Islands of Adventure is the best new theme park I have been to. There is so much to see as you walk around without getting on a ride, you are never bored. Tons of places to eat different things too. Also, one afternoon or evening go to the Cirque Du Soleil show, La Nouba. I have seen several and it is still my favorite. The theater is right there at the entrance to Pleasure Island so you could enjoy some shopping and fun after right there.
