4 days in DC

Thanks to everyone for the recs. Flying home from a great few days in DC.

Arrived noon Saturday in the Acela. Took metro from Union Station to the Ven Hotel. Very easy.

had smoked salmon tartine at Tatte and took rideshare to the Dumbarton mansion and gardens. Was a bit underwhelmed. Enjoyed the walk back.

Met a friend at Number Nine and we also went to Licht, which was on my list. Nice vibe!

Dinner at Les Desales. Took them 15 mins past my reservation and was starving, but service was fast. Had a great kale salad and burrata.

Sunday:

National Gallery and Smithsonian American Art and Portrait Gallery. Much of the SAA including 18-20 century was closed, which was a bummer. A number of National Gallery galleries also closed.

Dinner at Old Ebbitt. Mobbed. Had great crab cake. Had a snack at Pubkey beforehand and drink at Succotash.

Monday:

- my leg was really bothering me since Sunday, so I switched things up. Did tidal basin and walked more of the Mall and monuments. Then Asian Art gallery, a bit of the modern art, and National Air and Space.

yummy fixed price lunch at La Boucherie. Uber to Little Gay Pub and steak au poivre at Le Diplomat. Walk back. Did about 24-25K steps so didn’t save much, but arboretum seemed too far out and spaced out. Also had a cheeky gelato outside the modern art museum (Hirschorn?)

Tuesday:

Phillips Collection and lunch at cafe. Uber to and from Hillwood which was a major highlight! Then metro to DCA.

Arboretum … next time!

Glad you enjoyed Hillwood. It's always been one of my favorites.

Old Ebbit is a zoo. I had to fight through a crowd just to use the bathroom. Actively unpleasant.

Sounds like a great few days, especially with that step count. Hillwood was a nice pick, glad you made it there. The Arboretum is worth saving for next time, when you have more time.

The Arboretum is great to go when the azaleas are in bloom. Best to get there early before it opens as parking becomes too limited and they only let cars in as other cars leave. Totally worth it, even if coming in from out of town.
