4 days in Chicago - ideas

Heading to Chicago for 4 days - 2 ball games (giants vs cubs) Friday and Sunday afternoon games which leaves Friday night, Saturday all day and Sunday after game open. we already have tix for the Robie House for Saturday noon. Are there some architectural tours or walking tours that you can recommend.

Need dinner for Friday night as we have Saturday and Sunday covered (Italian and seafood) already covered. Tried to get reservations at the Gibson bar and Grill but no luck. We arrive late on Thursday so will find something and leave Monday afternoon.

Thanks for any help....

Are you driving into the city and paying big bucks for parking or are you coming in on the El or Amtrak?
For a view from up high, either the Willis (Sears) tower or the Hancock building on Michigan Ave. (magnificent mile).
The Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium on the lake shore.
Good food is all over the city. Check the Yellow Pages for your favorite.

You can search www.metromix.com or www.chicagoreader.com for restaurants by neighborhood, price or cuisine.

The Chicago Architectural Foundation has a number of walking, bike and segway tours however I believe their latest tour time is 5:30 pm. You can check their schedule at caf.architecture.org.

If you're looking for evening activities, there are the theatres, Second City and comedy clubs. The League of Chicago Theatres site at www.chicagoplays.com lists everything that's playing and has a link to the Hot Tix discount site which the League runs.

If you're going to be at the Robie House, the Oriental Institute on the Univ of Chicago campus is a short walk. It houses treasures of ancient Egypt and the near east and would only take an hour or so to visit.

Thanks for tips. I have contacted the CAF architecture and we hopefully will go on a walk with them. Looks like nasty weather so we may be doing more indoor things. Hopefully the baseball games are not rained out as Lincecum is on the schedule for Sunday.....

I would highly recommend the CAF Boat tour on the Chicago River if the weather holds out.

Would second the recommendation of the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museums. Both were great museums.

Enjoy Wrigley. Its a great stadium.

We visited Chicago last November for 6 days. apart from the CAF boat tour, we went on 2 other walking tours with them (Art Deco, and Tiffany Treasures). We loved both and would have taken more tours with them if we had more time! We also did several architecture tours - FLW studio in Oak Park, and FLW's Robie House in Hyde Park.

As for entertainment, we got 1/2 priced ticket to see Billy Eliot one night, and another night we went to a taping of NPR's Wait Wait Don't tell me (loved it)!

You can take a look at my trip report. We visited 5 museums, and perhaps my description will help you decide on one.
