4 days in Alaska
My wife and I and 15 year old daughter and 18 year old son are taking a northbound cruise getting off the ship in Seward on a Sunday. We plan to take the nature Fjord cruise later in the day. Monday we will do a full day Halibut fishing. Tuesday evening we will take the 6 pm train to Anchorage. We need to fly home Friday or Saturday. We like a leisurely vacation and do not like to have to rush from one thing to the next. Shall we stay near Anchorage and plan 2 or 3 day trips from there, or shall we try to get up to Denali? Is it worth it? Any suggestions. Our reservations are made for Monday and Tuesday, otherwise we are flexible |
Welcome to Fodor's!
What month will this be? The "worth it" questions are the hardest, but from Anchorage, Denali is a three-day outing - one to get there, one to visit the park interior, and one to get back. (It actually only takes half a day to get there - 5-6 hours or so, but you need a full 12 - 14 hour day to tour the park interior on the shuttle buses, so still two nights.) Places within day trip range of Anchorage to google - Whittier glacier cruise Alyeska gondola and Girdwood Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine Matanuska Glacier walk Eklutna village historical park and cemetery How about budget? Would you be willing to pay for some flightseeing? Or how about an overnight (might not be dark) in the arctic or on the Bering Sea? |
