4 Days/3 Nights - Las Vegas to LA
Hello
My husband and I both in our early 40's are coming from England and doing a 3 week tour of the USA, using planes, trains and car hire. The advice I'm looking for is the car hire section. We are in Las Vegas for 3 nights then we are hiring a car for 4 days and would like to tour the area ending up in LA for a further 3 nights. Could anyone recommend places to see and a route we could follow? Thanks |
Are you interested in visiting national parks? You could visit Zion National Park in southern Utah, then swing down to the Grand Canyon before driving to Los Angeles. www.nps.gov/zion and www.nps.gov/grca

If you like driving - you can "zip" over to the Grand Canyon from las Vegas in 5 hours - that being to the South Rim.
You can also get to Zion in about 3 hours - and on to the North Rim from there, assuming the roads are open while you visit. Check ahead - as the North Rim closes in winter I beleive. And driving from Las Vegas to LA takes about 4 hours - except on Sunday afternoon - which you should avoid at all costs. :) |
Also - check on possible "drop off" charges when renting/hiring a car in Las Vegas and turning it in in LA.

Plan on flying from Las Vegas to LAX (or San Diego?).
Driving through the Mojave desert is something you don't want to do even if there is no drop off charge. If you don't go to the Grand Canyon, at least go to see Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire and Red Rock out of Las Vegas. |
