4 day anniversary trip to maine
favorite areas to visit; suggestions for lodging
|
Mid-coast area. We usually camp in Wiscasset. Good area for exploring to the north i.e. Camden and south to Bath and Brunswick and east.
Camden: Mount Battie and beautiful harbor Rockland: Farnsworth Art Museum (but DH votes for Owls Head Transportation Musum), hike to Owls Head Light, great lobster Bath: check Maritime Museum for lighthouse cruises Brunswick: college town with great farmers market on Fridays, head to Harpswell area for lobster and exploration Boothbay: Maine Coast Gardens, fun shopping, boat to Monhegan island, some beautiful vistas Wiscasset: nice little town, good fried seafood at the Sea Basket. In general, interesting drives. You never quite know where you'll end up. On last visit found a secluded little beach listed as a nature preserve. Hard to find, bumpy road in but not more than a dozen people. Some fishing, some picnicking and swimming. Yes, Maine is crowded in the summer in some places. Other places are overlooked gems. |
Thank you for your helpful reply. I am always amazed that people will generously offer advice!

Very interesting and useful. Thanks

Pemaquid Pt near Damariscotta. Pretty lighthouse and a marvelous crafts shop on the way with beautiful things and reasonable prices. There is also and outside lobster dock whose name I forget.
