4.95 steak dinners in Vegas
 

I know people here are mostly upscale, but I am wondering if anyone has tried the 4.95 steak dinner at Ellis Island or the 5.99 Prime Rib Dinner at California which also includes cherries jubliee for dessert, and, how does the meal compare to places like Delmonicos or the Binions Steakhouse. Is the food just as good at the less expensive places? Are you just paying for atmosphere and service at the fancier places? Or, is it truly a "you get what you pay for type thing."

The food at Ellis Island is a bit better than at the California, and basically the $4.95 dinner as about as perfect as any $4.95 steak dinner you could ever imagine. You get a very good 6 ounce piece of sirloin. It is nowhere near the quality of a $50 steak dinner at Delmonicos or even a $20 steak dinner at the Outback.

I can only attest to Binions but for the price it's a great deal. While it's not fine dining, late at night (that's when the special begins) it sure is tasty.

joesorce got it right on the mark with his comments on the steak dinner @ Ellis Island. We were VERY pleased with the meal, and I added a Ellis Island microbrew beer to the meal for about $1.50. If you wanted to compare quality, I would say that the steak probably would be a bit better than something you would get at TGIF's , who would charge 3 times the price for the same meal. SO go with the expectations of a TGIF - quality meal, and you will be very satisfied.

The Gold Coast has a very good char-broiled steak dinner at 7.99, including salad, potatoes, onion rings & a beer.

as with almost everything else, you get what you pay for. ive had steak specials like you've described and ive eaten at Delmonico's. There is no comparison. If you just want to fill your belly, then go with the cheap specials. If you want a fantastic dining experience, it will cost you.

One of the best bargains in Vegas is the legendary 99c shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate. The scrimps are big, fat and juicy.
