$30,000 per night too expensive for BVI?
Everybody always asks about the most inexpensive hotels/resorts...but what about those fussy travelers who want some bling for their buck? :)
Saw this article recently in Forbes: Most expensive resorts 2006 In the 1980s, when billionaire Richard Branson turned Necker Island, a private island playground in the British Virgin Islands, into an exclusive-use resort priced at $5,500 per night, such a thing was practically unheard of. Today, Necker Island, which accommodates up to 26 people, is in such demand that rates start at $30,000 per night. Necker's highly visible success has given rise to a spate of similar resorts. For example, The Rania Experience, an exclusive-use island resort in the Maldives that opened in 2005, offers groups of up to nine a private chef, unlimited spa treatments and use of an 86-foot yacht, all for $13,000 per night--pricier per person than Necker. Even traditional full-service resorts, like Cayo Espanto, a Belizian island with five villas, became available for island buyouts in 1999, a year after it opened. Rates start at $10,000 per night, with a three-night minimum. |
Hi JAGIRL, I have read about places with those kind of rates. I am sure we will all line up to get reservations, lol. Thanks for the fun article!

Loveitaly,
I cannot even imagine what they must get for that kind of money! :) |
Once I win the lottery this is exactly what I plan to do! Rent an island for the weekend and throw a big party for 200 of my closest friends and family! Now all I have to do is win ...well I also have to remember to go buy a ticket..
|
ellenbw - I want an invite to that party!!!
It is really unfathomable. The most i have spent for a hotel room is $400/night. |
hey ellenbw,
get one of those lottery tickets for me too will you dear? :) |
I hope those people who rent the luxury resort in the Maldives enjoy it before the islands disappear in the rising ocean level or another global-warming-driven climate disaster.
|
Oh, no, kswl. Global warming is a no-no on this board!
|
I have seen the island and the facilities: way out of my league, but what a week-long party corporate greed could throw there.

oops! you're right, gb:
Thou Shalt Not Discuss Global Warming; Our President Has Declared that It Doesn't Exist. the 11th commandment . . . now how did I forget that??? >) |
Nice joint! My business partner and his girlfriend got invited there for a friend's 40th birthday. Swanky friends! They got helicoptered in and had an extremely indulgent long weekend. Amazing.
I'll be 40 in 5 years...DH better start saving now! :) |
Imagine having our Fodorite Convention 2007 on Necker! :))
Wonder what the swanky regulars to Necker would have to say if they saw jetset1 sauntering off the First Class only plane in her $16 underwear? :) Would they : a) just squeal with delight at having us there >:D< b)shriek with horror, pack their bags and jump on the next private jet out of there! :O c)shriek with horror, pack their bags, jump on the next private jet out of there and sue Branson for allowing the "wrong" sort of folk" onto their lovely Necker:O :@ d)run into the ocean shrieking with horror, leave their bags and start swimming frantically towards Tortola. :O :o=-o B-) |
