3 Star Las Vegas Hotels down to $15 midweek!

It seems like the economy has really crashed in Las Vegas. If you want to go midweek and stay off the strip you can get a nice spot for about $15-25. This is a huge drop from the good old days of the 2003-2006 period where Vegas was just so expensive.

There are 140,000 hotel rooms in Las Vegas with another 25,000 coming on line in the next few years.

Just like everything else in America now days there is just to many hotel rooms in Las Vegas for the current economy.

How will this all shake out?

Congratulations... you have peaked my curiosity! Were did you find such rates. I want to send my daughter and her friends there in Feb. I found midweek air fare from where she lives in Fresno for $19 each way and would love to learn about finding the rates you are speaking of. Is it in a safe area to stay, as things do tend to get a bit seedy away from the strip. Thanks in advance for the information.

Just check any of the travel websites and you will see that most of the Palace Station Casinos offstrip are down to $20 some nights. www.lasvegas.com has great prices, as well as www.hotwire.com

We thought the Orleans Casino was a great value last time we were in town.

I live in Ireland and plan a trip to Vegas 20 May, for 4 of us. Some hotels on an Irish hotel search website are €11 pppn (about $13) - Wild Wild West & Circus Circus. (although apparently you have to pay a service fee at Wild West of about $5 when you get there) As all we need is a clean bed for the night, not bothered about any frills (although I suppose a swimming pool would be nice) has anyone experienced these hotels? Why are they so cheap? Are they sleazy, or noisy?) We are only really going to Vegas to get to see the Grand Canyon, none of us gamble!
As we have never stayed in a hotel in USA, is there anything we ought to know before we book?

Thanks

You don't want to stay in either of those places Ric - the best thing to do is sign up for the casino e-mails, I just got an offer for the Luxor @ $40/night.

Look at www.earlyvegas.com.

You can look at all the various promos that they have for the MGM/Mirage hotels. Each hotel may have several promos going on at once, so read the details to see which one is the best deal for you.

I stayed at a suite at the Mandalay Bay for about $95 a night. I don't gamble and my main reason to go to Vegas is to indulge in a super swanky place to stay. There are great deals at either end of the spectrum.

Also, check TravelZoo and SmarterVegas for hotel deals.

For Ricardo: Have a look at the Las Vegas hotel reviews on Trip Advisor before booking.

www.cheapovegas.com is also a good source.

Ricardo, if your budget is tight there are some really good casino/hotels without having to think about wild wild west or circus circus.Stratosphere is a bit out on its own at the North end of the strip but they have excellent rates and good rooms, quite a young crowd so its always lively. Others are Gold Coast, South Point,Hooters although they are not on the strip. Harrahs has good rates on Expedia and on the strip right in the middle, good atmosphere at Harrahs also. A tip on booking is to book a couple of weeks before you go as the rates are at their lowest nearer the date of your visit.

With the $50 off /3 days coupons on Orbitz and Expedia....those $15 rooms can end up paying you back at checkout. "Here sir, we owe you $5, thanks for staying at Palace Station!"

"Circus Circus"

No No

Wow, I've been out for a few hours and on my return find all these negatives about the two cheap hotels I mentioned. Thanks for your contributions, but I'm still not yet the wiser as to why you don't like them. (Perhaps someone will give a positive comment?). But I will check out all your suggestions, thanks. [ Here's another one I found: Gold Coast Hotel and Casino. I expect you'll all be down on that one, too!] Stratosphere looks cool at least. clarkgriswold, I'll try to find those coupons! btw, we only plan to stay in Vegas 2 or 3 nights, as we want to see Grand Canyon & similar beauty spots, possibly driving to Colorado Springs if it's feasible and doesn't take too long.

We just returned from LV and stayed at the Wynn for $94/nt through Hotwire. What a great hotel!

Ricardo, I think if you are only going to be there for 2 or three nights you might want to be on the strip where you can easily walk through the hotels. I have never heard of Wild Wild West and don't know the Gold Coast Hotel but Circus Circus is just too far out as is the Stratosphere.

Hotel occupancy is down now and you should get a good deal at a hotel in a good location. Try Hotwire, BookingBuddy, Travelzoo or other hotel websites.

I hope you have as good a time in the US as we did in your beautiful country.

Gold Coast is great, pretty recently renovated with flat screens, good shuttle to strip, decent buffet, excellent chinese restaurant...............

chepar Feb 27th, 2009 09:13 AM

Where does the Gold Coast shuttle to the strip drop off at? They used to have one that ran to the old Barbary Coast (now Bill's Gamblin Hall), but wasn't aware they had one that still ran, since the other Coast hotels are off strip.

Ricardo, Circus Circus is rather run down. I'm not familiar with the other hotel. With a little bit more research, you may be able to find a comparable rate at a better hotel.

I will be in Vegas the week prior to you. Through the www.earlyvegas.com site, I grabbed a promo at the Monte Carlo with my room rate being as low as $42 per night. This promo also came with food credits, spa credits, etc.

I am also keeping my eye on the room rates at several Harrah's properties, as they keep dropping.

Just make sure you book something that's cancelable in case you find a better room rate later on.

Ricardo, if you want the reasons why you should stay clear of Circus Circus , 1/ run down and dirty. 2/ Usually full of families with unruly loud children. 3/ No atmosphere. I know the Stratosphere is out on a limb but it has a great atmosphere and good rooms. Gold Coast is a good option, nice rooms, low table betting, shuttle to Bills Gambling Hall regularly, also opposit the Palms and the Rio both great young lively casinos. Sorry forgot to mention why not Wild Wild West, 1/ long way from strip. 2/ very dodgy area/ 3/ low end customers. 4/ No atmosphere. Hope this helps.

Right. Tanx, I'm beginning to see the light

One thing you can count on here, is that if lots of people are steering you away from a place or an area, it is wise to listen. Most here are seasoned travelers, not snobs...... :)

While you have time, keep trying the better hotels for prices and you might score. Las Vegas is really hurting and several company "parties" have been canceled so those receiving "bail out" money can appear to be politically correct. The last big one to cancel was Wells Fargo. I was glad but felt so bad for people like banquet wait staff and such.

Steve Wynn just opened his new hotel, and I'm thinking that if he wasn't so close to having it completed, he wouldn't have. I was talking to one of my sales reps ( I have a flooring business) and the huge national convention, called Surfaces was held there a couple of weeks ago, and he said attendance was about 50% of normal.

So, if you check often while you have the time, you might just get a great deal.
