3 must visit places before you die!!
My wife and I got the book 1000 places to see before you die--way too many for our list. We started listing 3-5 places that we must see before we get"toooo olddd" What would your list look like?

Amsterdam coffee shop :))
|
As of today (& these are all places I have not been to yet) in no particular order - Iceland, Cuba & Nova Scotia. I also consider these reasonable, & doable.
|
Actually,Nova Scotia was on my list. I also had Ireland, and New England states in Leaf season--always wanted to see the leaves-haven't done it-but are going this year
|
Golden Gate Bridge
Paris Israel |
There are so many places I haven't been, but of the ones I have...
Grand Canyon New York City California (drive along the coast) |
California( along the coast)--I may have to add an extra to my list.
thanks |
Of the places that I have visited, I think these are must sees:
1. Paris 2. San Francisco/Big Sur 3. Great Smoky Mtns./Blue Ridge Mtns. The places that I want to see before I die: 1. Alaska 2. New York City 3. Bavaria Germany |
I live for that book.
Iceland Santorini Australia |
Auschwitz (Poland), Great Wall(China), Serengeti (Africa)
|
Before I die I would love to see:
Greece (Delphi) Norway's fjords the Aurora Borealis from somewhere waaaaay up north! |
cmcfong--you listed "Norway's fjords",when I was a hippie several years ago, I took a trip to Stavanger,Norway for 2 week trip--stayed 8 weeks--that whole area is amazing and really did not want to come back after 8 weeks, but marriage was waiting for me.

Browerville, MN
|
I must agree with Browerville,MN. Please don't miss the May 5th garage sales!
|
Only 3???? Wow, then I would choose:
Taj Mahal/India (do-over for DH but new for me) Antarctica African Safari Honorable mention: French Polynesia & Cook Islands in a captained yacht |
rphsims1, tell me more!
|
Hey!!! I've been to Browerville, Mn before. I hadn't realized it to be a "Must see before you die" destination. Now I'll have to go back and take another look. ;^)
|
In addition to Alaska and Australia, Iguazú Falls, Argentina <http://www.iguazuargentina.com/>. This place is truly one of the natural wonders of the world!
|
in the US:
New York City Bryce Canyon - Utah Maroon Belles - Colorado Outside of the US: Venice Macchu Pichu Tokyo |
For this board, maybe 10 would be a better number ?? Places I've been - Paris, Montserrat, NOLA. All of these I will probably revisit in the next year. However, I hope I get to see 'my' NOLA again in my lifetime.
|
Thank you SAnParis... 10 is much better number. Three was making me panic!
rphsims1, what were you thinking! :) Australia China Japan Thailand Reunion Tristan da Cunha Peru and Argentina Galapagas Is Easter Is Egypt These are all places that I've never been to... yes, I know Peru and Argentina are 2 separate countries but I'd combine them on one trip. Maybe 1000 places to see before you die isn't too many after all! |
I would love to go to Maine (I live in NY and have not been. The entire coast of California. Could only come up with 2!
|
Since this is the US forum, I'll stick with that:
Charleston, SC Savannah, GA the PNW Of course, those are really just the tip of the iceburg! |
Places I haven't been:
Australia, New Zealand Budapest - Hungary in general. My mom says every gentleman over the age of 50 looks just like my Grandpa. Tuscany Most fantastic places I've been: Costa Rica Kyoto, Japan Northern Wisconsin - where you can see the Aurora Borealis in the summer |
Magical places I've been...
Tuscany..just returned ..spectacular! Dunk Island, Australia Barbados Mt. Rushmore Still on the list: Spain Paris |
Italy, France and St. John
|
lisa - I had to take out the Grand Canyon in order to get Tuscany in.
Three is so very hard to limit myself to. |
Three is hard. My top 3 however, is
Egypt Turkey Cambodia (to see Angkor Wat) |
Antarctica
Japan Thailand |
It is so hard to name 3-5 at this point, since there are so many I want to see. I look at it this way, there are lots of places I want to see, but which ones would I regret most not seeing if something happened to keep me from traveling any longer?
UK - London especially Paris (return trip) - A place I must share with my children Grand Canyon - Again with my children Fenway Park - I have been a big Sox fan my whole life, but somehow have never made it Boston. I have seen them play in other cities. Australia That was tough!! |
I have way more than 3, but here's my short list (not counting places I've already been to):
Iceland (going this month) Machu Picchu (planning to go next year) New Zealand |
Absolutely Ireland
Hawaii (not my fav, but it is some peoples) |
Tuscany
New Zealand The Hundred Acre Wood, wherever it might be |
From where I've been:
Barcelona Lake Como Amalfi Coast Where I have no been: Paris South African Saffari Bora Bora |
Ok, I have to ask whats in Browerville, MN, that would include it in your list of 3. My List is changing after reading some of your list. The reason in the list is I am making a list of 3 places in US, and 3 places not in US. I retire in 6 months and the wife and I are going to work thru the list. Thanks for all of the ideas, again what's in Browerville, MN
