3 hr layover in HNL

have never had such a long layover at the Honolulu airport. It is usually a quick turn around to get to other island but I goofed on my reservation coming back home and need advice on what to do for 3 hours there. Lunch will probably take about 45 minutes if I stretch it but then??????? Do not have use of Airline club room on this trip...

Watch people, read a book, watch television, dine twice, a Massage, look at the pictures on your camera that you took of your trip, pay for wifi and surf the net.

I don't know what kind of answer you are looking for? There have been many times I've spent 2-4 hours in an airport waiting on a connection or a flight has been delayed. It's boring any way you look at it. Obviously, you can't leave the airport with that little amount of time.

I agree w/ spirobulldog. 3 hours isn't really long enough to go anywhere. Get a good book.

That's certainly not enough time to go anywhere. But there is a beautiful little *outdoor courtyard* area at the airport. So you can at least go sit outside and get some fresh air.

If a Fodorite can spend a three hour layover sight-seeing in Washington, why can't the same be done in Honolulu?

nelsonian,
#1 Very Risky that you might not make it back to your flight
I noticed in your video there wasn't a single person in line to get somewhere. This is nowhere near the norm.
#2. You are going to have to spend more time/money getting from airport to whatever you want to see than what it is worth(not even close in my opinion). At best you would have an hour to do something(and this is not allowing the airport suggested times for arriving).
#3 Washington has tighter security than most airports in the world. I promise you they do a lot more "extra" screening there than most.

thanks ....I forgot about that little courtyard. I will have my computer so I could watch a movie and I like the idea of a massage. I have seen them at SFO and other airports but have never looked for them in HNL since it is usually in and out. Does anyone know for sure if they have it there. I will be flying home Hawaiian.

Here's the website for the airport. It mentions "sleep/shower" but I didn't see anything about massage or spa.

Sure if someone had never been to Hawaii before (but Shar has) and was willing to pay a taxi to drive them to Waikiki Beach and back (~$35 each way) you could get a peak of the place and do that in under 2 hours. But seems kinda dumb in this situation

there is a cool little jungle like restaurant downstairs near the Burger King which has good food, the little courtyard is pretty nice. Go shopping for overpriced Hawaiian knick knacks.

thanks all. Think I will save a movie for the layover. I am spoiled in that I rarely have more than an hour layover anywhere or I am with my DH and we play a game...At least I don't have kids with me!
