Bellagio or Planet Hollywood Hotel in Las Vegas?

In August, I plan to visit Vegas to attend a 4 day conference. This will be my first trip to Vegas and I will be traveling alone. The meeting will be held at the Bellagio. However, one of my friends suggested that I also check into the rates of neighboring hotels such as Planet Hollywood, Paris, and Ceasars. Those hotels have significantly lower rates. I am more interested in Planet Hollywood because of some reviews saying that its chic, hip, and new remodeled.

Do you think the Bellegio is worth the extra $400 expense? Is Planet Hollywood is as great as the reviews suggest? How is the walking distance and convenience to the Bellagio (in the August heat)?

Bellagio is a first class property on the order of a Ritz Carlton and is an experience in Luxury... if you're into that living large feel... its worth the money... Planet Hollywood is more on the line of the Hard Rock... not high end but younger and hipper... if you're single and looking for love you are more likely to hook-up at PH or HR... at Bellagio, they will leave you alone, unless you are interested in married men on the same conference....

Also if you are over 35... you might be looked at as a Cougar at the hipper places... so age counts...

BTW, Planet Hollywood (formerly Alladin) and Paris are the only 2 casino/hotels that are truly just across the street from each other, IMO. If you go out the side door of Paris, you cross a small side street, *not* Las Vegas Blvd, and you can enter Planet Hollywood directly, (as long as it has not been reconfigured in the changeover from being Alladin) something that is virtually impossible w/all other properties that require long circuitous walks even when they are directly across LVB from each other.

Make note that even though hotels may be 'neighboring' that they are not walking distance away. Hotels next door to each other are often a mile walk between the two.

I recently stayed at Paris for a convention. Some other convention participants stayed at Planet Hollywood. Planet Hollywood's rooms were much nicer and the casino was hipper. Either hotel is an extremely easy walk to Bellagio. If you get a chance, do eat at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. The food and service is excellent!!!

Bellagio is nice hotel/casino an August in Vegas is BRUTAL for the heat..just venturing out of the hotel you are staying, just to catch a cab can be overwhelming.
Is $400 expense worthwhile..only you can answer that..will you rent a car?
Did you check the Wynn or the Palms?
The had the gorgeous Wynn at $109 and its a lovely 5* resort.
Last Minute deals on expedia.com had some great 3-4* hotels for $29 for the Sahara and that is a huge savings.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I actually just booked a room at the Planet Hollywood. I found an outstanding deal that included airfare and hotel on bookit.com. In addition, they had a special on a free bottle of champagne, wine or spirit for each night! I'm looking forward to my first trip to Vegas and I'm much more comfortable with the savings. I have extra cash to shop with in the mall on the property. Unfortunately, Bellagio had the most expensive rates than the other 5 star hotels at this time. Maybe I will step up to 5 star class when I plan a Vegas trip with a friend to split the cost! Thanks again.

Sounds like a good plan. Have fun! When we stayed there when it was Alladin, the rooms were very spacious.

I booked the Hollywood hip room, and got a free upgrade to the fountain view room. @ free buffets, 2 for 1 at the spa, and of course the free bottle per night. 3 days 2 nights for 180.
