I, too, have been to DC several times. This time, the Newseum and the National Portrait Gallery are at the top of my list. I read that the NPG has a place in/near it that has gelato.........yum!

Thanks everyone. Have opted out of day trip out of DC and plan to make the most of the extra time cramming in as much as I can. As a first visit I think I should make the most of being in DC and for future trips look at things out of the city.

Smart decision, baysidegirl. In past years I have attended Rare Book School at the UVA which has a lovely, historic campus and lots of wonderful bookshops in Charlottesville. Monticello is well worth seeing too, but you can see that and UVA on another trip. Can't imagine how you'd fit them all into three short days.

I love DC too and would like to return ASAP. Have fun!
