3 days in Vermont, from NYC - advice

Hello,
We are planning to visit Vermont on the next weekend (21-23 October). We will be leaving from NY and would like to have your advice about:
- Where to go (We are considering Bennington) and where to stay.
- Routes, attractions, etc.
Thank you very much,
Gustavo

Gustavo... I'm sorry but, you're planning on going up in two days and you're thinking about all this now? One VERY big problem you will have is that it's leaf peeping (fall foliage) therefore many locations will be *very* pricey, and probably booked at that! I am intimately familiar with the Newfane, Quechee and Mt. Snow areas and can rec. some places there but don't think you will have much luck securing accommodations at this late date -- especially if you were thinking of a B&B.

When we lived in Manhattan, we went up to Middlebury for a long weekend. The drive wasn't too bad, the scenery is beautiful, the town has a few interesting things to do...we especially enjoyed the Morgan horse farm and the Frog Hollow Vermont Craft Center. We stayed at a lovely small inn a few miles outside of town, but it's no longer in business (has been turned back into a private home), so can't help with accommodation recs.

Last year we stayed at the Paradise motor inn in Bennington(OCT 1).The thing to de is what we did the next day. Drive along the Mohawk trail up to Williamstown and visit the fantastic Clark museum. A must. Paul

We spent a few days in vermont and just drove around and checked out all of the covered bridges and had a great time! driving through all of the small towns was so much fun! Quechee Gorge is pretty and worth a trip to see, other than that just driving around is nice! Springfield has a nice B&B type of place called the Hartness House.
