3 days in Rhode Island with kids - Late October
I will be in Rhode Island for work and have 3 days for some sightseeing with my kids 11 & 13. I have a vehicle and will travel to any part of Rhode Island. Looking for ideas on some of the best Rhode Island has to offer. I was thinking we might do the cliff walk and check out beneath the breakers. We do like history, visiting landmarks and hiking and anything kid friendly. I know time our time there will be so short so hoping for some help :)

Consider taking the ferry from Point Judith, RI to Block Island. Check out the beaches in Naraganset to see some east coast surfers if conditions are good. While in Newport, visit Fort Adams.
Head west to CT and visit Mystic Seaport and/or Aquarium. Go the the Native American museum at Foxwoods Casino (it's not in the casino but on a nearby property and is excellent - do check for the days of the week it is open) Go to the submarine museum in Groton, CT it is free and you can go inside the submarine Nautilis. |
emalloy’s suggestions are excellent.
There’s plenty to do in Newport for three days, though unless your kids are keen to see the various mansions (unlikely), the Cliff Walk and the beach there will probably be of most interest to them. |
Agree with emalloy's suggestion. We did Beneath the Breakers last year and thought it was fascinating (a lot of early technology). The Native American museum at Foxwoods is one of the best history museums I've ever been to.

Thank You - looking forward to the museum for sure.

When you visit the museum, do not miss the movie about the attack on the Pequot village. It's quite well done.
