Would agree that the Willamette Valley produces some very good Pinots - and my favorite areas are down by Eugene, but unless one is on a mission for Pinots - below is a map of the wineries near the Gorge, and some have B & B's.
I trust you can find some with decent Pinots and blends and have a good time wine tasting - such as at Mt. Hood winery: http://www.mthoodwinery.com/ http://www.mthoodwinery.com/our-wines or at Cathedral Ridge - http://www.cathedralridgewinery.com/ http://www.cathedralridgewinery.com/wineawards.php or at the Pheasant Valley Winery - http://www.pheasantvalleywinery.com/ http://pheasantvalleywinery.com/shop...oduct_list&c=2 or Phelps Creek: http://www.phelpscreekvineyards.com/wines.html The larger list: http://www.winesnw.com/gorgemap.html |
LOL Gardy: Just read your post. I guess I had good luck skiing there a couple of times and visiting a number of times during the summer - and never experiencing the dreaded fog/mist. :)
Do agree - continuing to check might be the best approach - and one could even stay down in the nice/warm Hood River valley/Pheasant Valley - to the north of Mt. Hood, and "commute" up to Timberline. |
I think a night in the gorge area, and a night in the willamette wine country would be fine. I was trying to find a luxury, high-end place to stay put and day trip out. Skania looks ok, but it seems on the website to be a kind of mega convention-style hotel. Or am I reading this wrong?
Timberline is just too far up and out of the way for this trip. In the willamette is found the allison inn, but their booked. Any suggestions there? |
Jannan--A few other places to check out include Inn at Red Hills in Dundee, Black Walnut Inn and Youngberg Hill B&B. Even though we live just a few minutes from here, we have stayed at the Inn at Red Hills. It is a small boutique hotel and in a great location for getting around to the nearby wineries. We had a king room that was very spacious and well appointed. The restaurant there closed and is due to reopen under a new name in just a few weeks. There is a nice outdoor seating area with a huge fireplace, which is a big draw in the spring/summer. The only drawback is that the hotel is located right on hwy 99. We never had an issue with noise, but I thought I should mention it. That said, The Allison setting isn't any better as it sits in an industrial area of Newberg, so don't feel bad about missing out on that. Another place to look is Chehalem Ridge B&B. It is very reasonably priced and only has a couple of rooms, but the views are amazing! It sits on Chehalem Mountain so looks down over the valley. They have a wonderful deck to take it all in:)
