3 days in Lanai/What to do?
I am spending three days in Lania at the Manelee Bay Hotel? Any suggestions of what to do and where to eat. We are definitely looking to spend most of our time relaxing on the beach but is there anythign we must see or do?

I wouldn't say there was anything you must do but there is plenty you can do. Contact the hotel or check their website - they can arrange most activities. You can rent a jeep and cruise through the Garden of the Gods to a secluded beach. You can play golf. You can go on snorkle sail trips, rent sea kayaks, go bicycle or horseback riding, or trap shooting. All of the restaurants at Manele Bay and Koele are excellent - make sure to eat outside one night at the Manele Bay golf clubhouse restaurant. Great view over looking the hotel and ocean. Henry Clays Rotisserie in Lanai City is very good too. There are a couple of good casual and inexpensive restaurants in town called Pele's Garden and Blue Ginger.

You have privleges at the Lodge at Koele. There is a free shuttle up there from your hotel. it is styled like an English hunting lodge, so nice for a change of pace. They have afternoon tea, music in the lobby in the evenings, miniature golf and the horseback riding is up there.
If you plan to rent a jeep, you should reserve ahead. They often run out of them. We like going to shipwreck beach and exploring that side of the island. Have fun. It is a very relaxing place. Very dark at night too, if you like watching the stars! |
Just a slight correction, Icuy- the transportation at the hotels on Lanai (Lodge at Koele and Manele Bay Hotel) is not free. The clients pay a fee of $25. per person to the hotel for use of the shuttle while they're on the island. It takes them to/from the airport, to/from Lanai City, and to/from both hotels. It does not take them to or from the Manele Bay Pier.

Ah one of my lifetime favorite vacation memories! It is truly a special island. We stayed at the Lodge and loved it, spending part of each day at the pool and beach at Manele! Maybe rent a jeep for a day mid morning, so you can still do some pool time if you choose and explore some more at sunrise. Really though if it is just 2 nights, relax and enjoy both resorts, and make sure to get in a round of executive pitch and put at the Lodge! Was it Pele's or Blue Ginger that had the greatest meatball sandwich? Serious on this one! Take the time to talk to Lanai's people. They are friendly and will either miss the pineapples or prefer their new life. One wonderful greensman at the Lodge's golf course told me "next time bring a tent and stay longer!"

Lanai is relaxing and quaint. It's not a place that one goes to in order to DO much. Relaxing and enjoying the beach are the best activities. We had dinner at both Manele Bay and the Lodge at Koele -- both excellent. Golf on both the Challenge and Experience is not to be missed if you're golfers. One of our most wonderful afternoons was spent hanging around the pool terrace and watching the porpoises spinning in the bay. I live in Hawaii and had never seen porpoises playing in the wild before! You'll love Lanai!
