3 Days in Jackson Hole - advice needed
Unfortunately, we can't take any time off this summer, so we're going to JH for 3 days over 4th of July weekend and staying at Spring Creek. What are the must-dos in such a short time? I fear that a drive into Yellowstone is too long and won't be worth it, but maybe a few key spots can be seen in a short period? We'd also like to do a hike or river raft or fly-fishing..so many posibilities, so little time. Any advice on how to spend our 3 days would be greatly appreciated.

Two words: Grand Teton!
A visit here will result in a glorious 3 days. You can easily drive into the park each day from Jackson Hole. |
It is an easy drive into Old Faithful and even over to canyon. You will get a good feel in one day.
Whitewater rafting is just out of town and this is a good company: http://www.mad-river.com/whitewater.cfm There is also world class fly fishing in the area. Just depends on your priorities. There will be a big parade on the 4th and they always have the "shoot out" in town. If you care for wine or a cocktail....walk next door to the patio at Amangani. The food is also wonderful at either Spring Creek or Amangani. |
Thanks for the help. I think maybe we'll try to do Old Faithful/Canyon one day, a hike in the Jenny Lake area another day and then something else in Grand Tetons/Snake River the next. Hope that makes sense.

sevenwonders,
Driving to Old Faithful area from Jackson is something I would be willing to do 1 day, but not more than once. It will be about 2.5 - 3 hrs. one way without a lot of stops. It will be worth it, but just FYI. I would recommend stopping at the West Thumb area which is between Grant Village and Old Faithful. Well worth the visit. Your plan for 3 days sounds great. 4th of July is always THE most crowded time in Jackson, just know that in advance and go with it. You'll have a great time! One of my favorite restaurants is Jedediah's House of Sourdough. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tiny place, great food, historic cabin just east of town square. They do close between meals - go EARLY to avoid a long wait, no res are taken. |
