70 is about the only way during the winter, and a short time I think, but maybe some of the residents can offer something.
You should go on west and take a look at Breck and Vail while you're in the neighborhood.

Steamboat is very similar to Breckenridge in that both are old mining towns (more ranching for Steamboat) but both are major ski areas. And it is four hours from Denver. You will have the same problem with the beginning of Spring skiing.

Don't worry about an "acclimation day" as one days makes little difference since you only adjust about 1000 feet/day.

Frisco would be a better bet price wise and also consider Dillon and Silverthorne as they are all in the same area.

In Frisco your are ten miles to Breckenridge or Keystone and a little less to Copper Mt and 35 miles to Vail.

If you want to drive and cruise around you could drive to Leadville, at 10,000 feet the highest incorporated town in the USA. If the weather is good, you might walk part of the Mineral Belt trail but it is probably buried in snow. Also could drive Glenwood Canyon. It is one of the four or five top scenic areas in Colorado. About an hour and half west along I-70.

Again, WhereAreWe, remind me of what of Colorado you live in?
