p.s. In Feb. I have found that it is usually cold at night and in the mornings, but we can peel off the layers and by midday we are down to a long sleeved shirt if the weather is sunny, esp. if you are active outside.

We're planning to do this in mid-January and end up in Las Vegas; three nights or four on the road out of Phoenix-what would anyone recommend? We're staying at El Tovar in the Park.

I've done GC/Sedona in 3 nights..4 days..
Keep Sedona as a base.
We hike Sedona and eat, drink, spa, hike..we love the vibe and do GC for the day..we really need more time but it just doesn't work out that way and you get a taste of it all and then leave mid afternoon PHX so you can have lunch at Carolinas for Mex.
We enjoy Sedona Rouge, Enchantment, BW Inn of Sedona.
Too many galleries, t-shirt shops which we rarely go into the town..we all love to hike.
It's a great place but stay out of the touristy town.
Jerome on the way back is a great place to have lunch and enjoy the quirky town.

Here are some 'scenic drives' in the Sedona area ...

http://www.sedona-az.biz/sedona-ariz...nic-drives.php

I would recommend the Boynton Canyon drive and, if the road is in good enough shape for your vehicle, the Schnebly Hill Scenic Drive. But this one is often too bumpy for cars with low clearance. Take 89a thru Oak Creek canyon (listed as a scenic drive) on your way to Flag.

Here's another site with other scenic drives near Sedona:

Spending some time driving around this area is a much better plan than just overnighting in Sedona and then "we could wake up early and head to the GC" (from one of your earlier posts). No need to get to the GC before 2-3 PM or so to catch the sunset, so plenty of time to check out Sedona in the AM.

What an informative thread.
We are flying into Arizona, most probably Pheonix on a Friday and driving to Sedona to stay at the Sedona Summit.
We will be there for a week.

I have gathered we should hike, take a jeep tour, go to the grand canyon, see Jerome.
Red Rock state park looks interesting.
We are golfers and would like to golf twice during our week.
I am interested in one of the vortex sites.

Anyone have any experience with any of the Reiki practicioners there?
Have you been to Chapel of the Holy Cross?
Suggestions are welcome.
We were going to add time on at the end of the trip to stay overnight at Bright Angel where we have reservations but I am thinking of going to the GC during our week. Just not sure of the best way to get there and how to eat dinner at El Tovar with a drive back during the dark hours. How are the roads?

Great suggestions. I like Kbot's suggestions. I would stay in Sedona and drive to grand canyon for a day. As mentioned, wear layers; it is a 40 degree difference from top to bottom of the canyon. If you are driving back from the canyon at night, take the highway, NOT 89A-too winding and if snow on roads, could be "fun". Have a great time; I just listed some suggestion on the other Sedona thread.

You are all so awesome.
We are going to stay a night in the park with a view room, already booked.. what an exciting trip this will be.
