3-4 Day Getaway within few hundred miles of Philadelphia Area???
We rarely travel as we are constantly working. So, we have no idea where to go and get away. New car has us motivated to get away for a few days. Approx 4 hours from the Philadephia Area would be great....prefer North, as it is stinking hot already....looking for late July, early August. Any ideas would be so appreciated. Thanks, Donna

1. Niagara Falls/Toronto
2. Gettysburg/Harpers Ferry
3. Washington DC/Mount Vernon
4. Boston/Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket
5. It is south, but the Outer Banks NC would be cooler as they are barrier islands.

Erm, only 2 and 3 would be within four hours drive from Philadelphia, with Mt. Vernon pushing the limit, depending on traffic.
Depending on what you like, there's the Altoona/Johnstown area (historic sites, railroads, The Flood, 9/11 site); there's the Poconos, of course, which is more than heart-shaped tubs (but those too, if you want); there's Delaware Water Gap for hiking; Harrisburg/Hershey area (about two hours, not four, but some interesting sites); Hudson Valley of New York...
What type of trip are you looking for?

Wait til the fall or spring to do DC or the Eastern Shore. I would drive up into the Poconos. It sounds like you have a busy life and need to just relax. Look at Skytop Lodge. www.skytop.com

The Lodge at Woodloch, for an amazing spa vacation.
Someplace on the Connecticut coast? (pushing the 4 hour mark, though, especially with summer traffic)
Also, some driving day (or half day) trips to break in the new car - Lambertville, NJ; Peace Valley Lavender Farm in Bucks County (and the farm market near it with amaing lavender ice cream); Brandywine Valley.
