3 1/2 days in NY with 6yr old

Hi- I am taking my daughter to NYC for a few days for her birthday in March. We have been to NY before but as a family. This time due to work obligations my husband can not join us. I am looking forward to doing some new stuff and gearing it to her. She said she would like to go back to AMNH again and I have purchased tickets for us to go to the Lion King and we will be hitting Serendipity again. However I am stumped... any suggestions for what we can do or places to eat at would be very appreciated!

Mme Tussauds, Disney store and FAO,
The children museum were some favorites of mine when she was 6 to 10 years old...
At the museum of the city, there is
a toy's part and some doll's houses to see which are always a favorite, for both wife and daughter...
Other musicals : Mary Poppins(not so bad than the critic said...), Phantom of the Opera.
Perhaps a half day at the MET : egyptian aisle, american wing...
Some stores : NBC, ABC, NBA,...
Walk on Brooklyn bridge if the weather permitt and a pizza at Grimaldi's under the bridge, Southstreet seaport and the boats, a taxi water "drive"...

Central Park - zoo and biking (if weather permits)

Staten Island ferry

Top of the Rock

Consider Ellen's Stardust Diner - just basic diner food but the singing waitstaff (out of work chorus boys and girls) are fun for kids

TRU in Times Square has a giant indoor ferris wheel

Central Park -- zoo, carousel, ice skating (might be over by March)

My daughter liked the ceiling in Grand Central and there is a cool pylones store there. The food court downstairs has lots of kid-friendly offerings (local chains -- no Taco Bell/McDonalds).

I would think that the ferry to Staten Island might be fun, too.

took my 6 and 8 yr old boys there and have gone back every year since....Central Park carriage rides, also loved riding in the bicycle rikshaws around Times Square at night..happened to be at Today Show on a morning Mary J Blige did an outdoor show..great fun. Nintendo World right there at NBC Studios (visual overload). Loved Toys R Us, Empire State Building, Build A Bear,
Museum of Natural History and the adjoining Planetarium show is spectacular even for a young child

the NBC experience tour could be another good idea. She might not watch the shows, but they do some audience participation stuff about blue screen technology, teleprompter, etc.

Also, should have mentioned the American Girl store. You can have lunch or tea there, but book early!! They used to have a show, too, not sure if that has closed. The store itself is huge, but be sure to start saving up now.

Dylan's candy store is a must do for my kids.

Our 6yo DD really loved riding the subway - one night we had some extra time, and actually rode further than our stop, so we could also ride back! We stayed on the Upper West Side, so she had the opportunity to ride the subway almost every day.

Our kids like ethnic food, so we did a lot of that, particularly Indian, throughout the city.

I think the Intrepid is back in place; that's good for several hours, at least.

She enjoyed Central Park, the zoo (must see Madagascar before your trip) and the playgrounds.

Rather than take a boat ride all the way around the island, or even half-way around, we took "The Beast." It's geared more to older kids, but she liked it too.

American Girl Store? American Girl Cafe? Ellen's Stardust Diner with singing waitstaff. If she likes peanut butter, Peanut Butter & Co.

FAO Schwarz to play the BIG piano. Toys 'R Us in Times Square for the indoor ferris wheel. The Carousel in Central Park. Go see the original Pooh, Tigger and Eyeore at the main library @ 42 st. & Fifth ave. http://www.nypl.org/branch/central/d...ooh/index.html

When you go to the AMNH, you might stop at the Children's Museum nearby first. http://www.cmom.org/

gocitykids.com is worth checking for their calendar of events on the dates you're here.

These are great ideas, thank you! The children's museum looks great, we will definitely stop there. I am going to check out American Girl for her but I don't think we will do the cafe. I think we will do La Bonne Soupe for lunch that day, or does anyone suggest we skip it? I have heard good things...

La Bonne Soup is fine but nothing exciting for a 6 yr old imo. Rock Center Cafe overlooking the ice rink at Rock. Ctr. would be more interesting imo or even one of the places downstairs in the food court in Rock. Ctr. like Two Boots pizza.
