25th wedding aniv

July 20th is our 25th wedding aniv. Having just returned from an exhausting 12 day trip from SF to LA to LV we are looking for a quiet, romantic, place to spend with as little hassle (getting there that is) as possible. We live in the NYC area. Any ideas?FPK

We are celebrating our 30th anniversary on July 12 and we are heading to Vail, Colorado (from Michigan). We've never been there and are looking forward to it. From what I've read about it, it sounds romantic and relaxing. Probably more distance than you're looking for, but it's a possibility.

Happy 25th!!!!

Happy 25th! What about Bermuda?

Fodorite018 Jun 5th, 2004 08:37 AM

How about Saratoga Springs or if you want to go a tad further over to Vermont? Both are such pretty areas!

Many thanks for the replies. Bermuda was where we spent our honeymoon, not a bad idea. Any suggestions on some really nice b&bs inns or hotels in vermont and saratoga areas?

We spent both our honeymoon and 25th anniversary in Bermuda, and it was wonderfully romantic to go back to places we had been as newlyweds.

The second time we stayed at an all-inclusive resort called Harmony Club that I would recommend.

Of course, the title of the photo album filled with pictures of us taken at the same sights 25 years apart should be titled"watch A & C age."

Although I haven't been there yet, Quebec City sounds romantic and exotic.

Abram, we also had gone back to bermuda on our 16 anniv with our two daughters (15 &12 at the time). It was interesting to see our original album compared with the new pictures. Def. a possibility (i was thinking about a cruies this time since we live in the NYC area) Jocelyn, we were also thinking about Quebec city, I have res. at chateau frontenac FPK

Saratoga: I recommend the Gideon Putnam Inn. Hope you are going when the track is open.

I love Montreal, its not that bad a drive from NYC. We've gone the last 2 summers with a stop for a few days in Saratoga last year. It breaks up the drive perfectly. You can also stop in Vermont when you go the other direction. I can make several Montreal recommendations if you are going. Montreal can be very romantic, and if you time it so that you are there for the "Just for Laughs" comedy festival, that's an added bonus.

The dollar goes very far in Canada these days.

Frank...
Adding Quebec City to Montreal itinerary is also great, but does add a bit of driving.
The Chateau Frontenac is the best choice by far. Some rooms are much better than others so try and get a decent size room. It rained the whole time we were there last summer (the third week in July) which was unfortunate. It stopped long enough on one day so we could see the changing of the guard.

If you wanted to avoid getting on a plane, have a look here

Lenox, Mass. near Tanglewood etc.

When we lived near Saratoga we usually did day trips to Vermont. We did stay up in Stowe over Christmas one year though, at the Golden Eagle Resort and really liked it...but not for a 25th anniversary.

After we moved away from Saratoga we used to go back and stay at the Brunswick Bed and Breakfast (www.brunswickbb.com). It is right on Union Avenue, just down from the track, within walking distance of everything in the heart of the city, and just a wonderful place to stay. The hosts are very friendly and the breakfasts very good.

What about Niagra Falls- not too far considering you just came back from California & Nevada, quiet, romantic...

The most wonderful spot for a special trip is St. John, USVI... I know of a perfect private home that sits 50 ft above the crashing surf on one of the southern bays... great sunrises...

frankpkeller Jun 6th, 2004 06:11 PM

thanks for all the feedback. st john sounds wonderful yet more involved (getting there that is). a six or seven day cruise to bermuda might work although i have never been to quebec city either. maybe a cruise to quebec city (from nyc)? Frank
