If you're really nuervous, stay at a youth hostel or something where you will meet other single travellers to hang out with. But you'll be fine.

I was in my 20's when I went to NYC for the first time and was alone. Didn't have a problem. Just go about your business and no one will bother you. Actually, I found the people friendly and helpful. At the time I was living in Houston, Texas. If you want some fun things to see/do, send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to fill ya in. Have fun.

I'm glad J.A. had a wonderful and safe trip. But although NYC is as safe as any city, J.A. needs some street smarts in order to continue to travel safely. For example, posting your date, time, and destinations on a public forum is very foolish. Especially when you already point out your naivete. I guess practice makes perfect, but J.A., learn how to protect yourself from those who prey on others' vulnerability.
