21st Celebration in Oahu
My son is turning 21 at the end of this month and will be in Oahu/Kailua with his dad (my ex). I am flying out to be with him on this big day but know little of the island except for what I have read on this forum. Is there anything that would stand out that would be a cool thing for a mom and her son to do there to celebrate a 21st? We love outdoor activities (hiking, mtn biking, the water) but also love a party and great food. This is his third visit to Hawaii, so he has done all the standard things, but my first. Any thoughts?

Some ideas:
Polynesian Cultural Center Dinner cruise There are a few nice places for mountain biking. Kaena Point, Aiea Loop Trail are two of the better ones. There is also at least two commercial mountain bike rides. One is in Kaaawa. One is downhill biking on Tantalus (if they are still in business) There are a couple of places to rent jet skis. Hike Diamond Head Hike to Makapuu Point Lighthouse Rent kayaks at Kailua Beach or take a kayak tour there. Snorkeling - on your own or on a tour Deep sea fishing Lots of Oahu info: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34812564 |
Although I haven't done it, I think I would opt for a Diamond Head hike during the day, and dinner at someplace on the beach, like Duke's in the Outrigger on Waikiki.

I should add that my daughter turned 21 recently and we took her to Las Vegas for the weekend (I'm not a Vegas fan, but she loved it --- I'd have much preferred Oahu!)

Thanks for the ideas dusty and dmlove. It turns out that his dad is taking him to Maui to windsurf for the day so we are taking him out to dinner. I'll check out Duke's. We will probably do some of the other things suggested like the mountain biking.
