Yikes. Looks ominous when you see the whole list like that. Some were always meant to be limited runs, but still....

HowardR Dec 2nd, 2010 08:36 AM

The Merchant of Venice and Driving Miss Daisy may extend.
While it's certainly more than "normal" (whatever normal might be), there is always a dropoff as the lucrative end-of-year season fades into the quietest time of the year for theater. At least half of them were limited-engagement shows. Still, it's a downer!

I just read yesterday that TIME STANDS STILL will be extended for ONE WEEK to Jan 30, 2011. The current cast will stay for the additional 8 performances.

Many "Limited Engagement" shows have ways of extending their run if the show turns out to be a big hit. I think that was the case with South Pacific.

Even some of the limited engagements above are closing prior to their original intended closings. La Bete was supposed to close in March.

While you're at it, don't forget your Pee-Wee Herman tickets. :D

Donny & Marie was always just a holiday show.

He always gave the Jews a bad name.

Haven't seen it but it got great reviews and tickets are hard to come by. Only closing because it was intended as a limited run and Pacino wasn't replacable with a comparable bankable star. Basically a star vehicle.
