201 from Quebec south through Maine?

We are planning a driving trip from Boston to Quebec city and back to Boston. Has anyone taken 201 which meets up with 95 around Augusta (Waterville)? Is it pretty (September), a two lane rd? Any other info or suggestions? Thanks

The more direct, and somewhat faster route, as you probably have figured out, would be Route 55 out of Canada to I-91 to I-93. The scenery along the interstates is very nice. Route 201 in Maine, especially through Jackman, is also very nice. So long as you don't mind low speed limits (and speed limits that change frequently - watch out for speed traps) until you get to I-95, you'll enjoy the drive.

If you're going at the end of September, you might catch some spectacular foliage on Route 201. There was a photo on the cover of a travel magazine once, taken in that area, that was positively breaktaking. That time of year, driving through Maine would be preferable to driving through Vermont and New Hampshire, as the colors start to change first in the far north/east and move south/west as the season progresses.

have only driven from jackman south. the road is very pretty - goes along the kennebec river. in sept colors should have started. it is 2 lane but traffic if very sparse. bingham would be a nice small town to stop and get lunch.

Route 201 is a beautiful drive and you can almost always depend on seeing moose along the roadway so watch out!
