South Texas! Cheap, diverse cultures, beautiful unspoiled or developed beaches and lots of history

I would go to the California coast anywhere between San Francisco and the Mexican border. September and October are the two best months of the year to visit the California coast. The weather is the clearest and still pretty warm. We get some of our warmest weather of the year in September. The attractions and accomodations are less crowded at this time.
Northwestern Florida has quite good weather and the prices arene't in season yet.

the Gulf Coast of Florida. Low season then, but weather is wonderful. Sarasota/Bradenton is nice area, also St. Pete/Tampa, Naples/Fort Myers/Sanibel/Captiva Island/Marco island.

What about a one week cruise to the Eastern or Western Caribbean and then a week in Florida?

I ditto Cindy. Gulf Coast of Florida around Sanibel Island and Marco Island is just beautiful. The Florida Keys would also be a good choice. Can't go wrong with either, but make it Florida for sure!

I just returned from a weekend in Key West (my first time there in 20 years). Had a wonderful time and was advised by the guesthouse proprietor that Septemeber is the slowest month of the year with lowest rates and has the best weather. Our experience, including some specific dining choices, the guesthouse itself and a snorkeling excursion was an extremely memorable time and reasonably priced. If you want specifics, feel free to E-mail me direct for details.

I am a long time resident of Florida. I don't know why people would recommend Florida in September or October unless cheap is all that is important. We get some of our worst weather in those months. The best weather by far is Feb-April when it is the driest. This is however the high season so accomodations will be more expnsive and crowded. Orlando is also very crowded in the summer because of school age children and vacations.
