Love your comment, gyppielou! Priceless.

If you're into kayaking, hiking and outdoors, you'd really enjoy pairing the Big Island with Kauai. The two are both beautiful and have very different personalities.
While the area around Kona is quite built-up, much of the big island is more natural. I found hiking the volcanos to be one of the most memorable experiences I had on the Big Island. |
Two weeks is too many and 3 weeks not enuff!
87 mo' days baby. 87 mo days. |
Two months is not too long! Two weeks gives you a little time to meet some of the lovely people, maybe visit a church, take long walks on the beach, gaze at the ocean and the mountains, explore the grocery stores and farmers markets, hike until you are sore, snorkel until you are pruny. If you like doing these things, two weeks is perfect. If you get antsy and want more "glitz" (not that there's anything wrong with that...), two weeks might be a little long.
We're going for a little over two weeks in April-May next year. Our fifth trip to Kauai. Every time we think of more stuff we want to do, and start planning the next trip upon our return home. We used to go to Maui, but haven't been since our first trip to Kauai. |
We had our honeymoon in 1962 and have been back many, many times. For me, two weeks would be grand, however, not during the summer. Why not spend two weeks during winter instead?

Although I love to look at the winter surf, my first choice is to float in the summer surf.

Two weeks on Kauai - how very wonderful for you! No, it is not too much. I would not go as far as to state that it is not enough, but certainly not too long.
We normally visit for two weeks around Christmas-New Year, and never tire of being that fortunate. We are pretty much beach potatoes, so I could not provide you with any advice regarding kayaking or any other activities, but I would suggest that you walk over to your local Barnes & Noble, or some other book store and purchase Leonore Horowitz's Kauai Underground Guide. Everything you have ever wanted to know about Kauai is in it. Did you say you saw a unit on VRBO in Poipu Kai? Great location on the South Shore and this is where we always stay. Just make sure that the unit is decent (ask for photos and ask questions), well maintained. These are privaty owned condos and can range in quality from beautiful sea castles to outright dumps. Daytripping to another island is a pain, unless it is to Oahu to see Arizona Memorial, Punchbowl, Waikiki Beach, etc. It would be a direct flight and you could sign up with one of those tour operators, like maybe Roberts, to show you the must-sees. Going to any other island will require a long treck via Honolulu, not worth it IMO. Well, enjoy! I wish we were going. Anna Roz |
