Sorry about the confusion about US27/127. Looks like everyone already answered your questions that you posed to my first reply. Except for the question about where to get the best pasty.

Definitely get your pasty in the U.P. There are very few (if any, anymore) good pasty places in the lower peninsula. My favorite places for a pasty are probably further than you want to drive - further west in the U.P. (Shingleton, Houghton, Hancock) Lehto's, which is west of St. Ignace, on US-2 used to have a decent pasty. You could save yourself a lot of driving and just order them shipped to your door - www.pasty.com has very good pasties that come to your door frozen (with dry ice). You cook at home. I've ordered them several times and have not been disappointed.

Take warm clothes. That is always a good recomendation in northern Michigan, but this yeaqr Spring is running late.

Hi....yes, we are back......had the most amazing vacation! Northern Michigan was far beyond our expectations. What a beautiful place. I will do a trip report here in just a few days...Am taking a lunch break right now..Better get the desk cleaned off!
