2 Perfect days on Kauai

Reading over the posts about Kauai made me want to share our two perfect day on Kauai's North coast just this past weekend!

Saturday -
Leave our Poipu B&B (Gloria's Spouting Horn B&B) around 10 am and head for Hanalei. Get to Wainiha Beach (http://www.hawaiiweb.com/kauai/html/...iha_beach.html) around 11. Find a spot under the pines to park chairs and cooler facing the river and settle in. We swam, my husband snorkled (Wainiha is not great for snorkeling, but he is always into anything that will keep him partly under water!), collected shells, walked to the ocean side, swam, relased, etc. until mid afternoon. Went into Hanalei for lunch and back to Wainiha for more of the same until around 4 pm. Then we headed for Ke'e arriving just about when much of the crowd was packing up to go home. Parked under the trees, swam, snorkled (good snorkeling at Ke'e with a nice reef to attract the pretty fishes and calm water) and watched the picture perfect sunset. Went to Ha'ena Beach Park and used the freshwater shower (cold!) to rinse off the salt, changed into dry clothes in the public restrooms and back into Hanalei for dinner and Sushi and Blues (www.sushiandblues.com) for dinner. Perfect!

Sunday - repeat Saturday!

Can't wait to return!

djadis, please tell more about Gloria's! I've seen and read so much about it. The website looks wonderful. How was the food, the rooms? Are they "hovering" hosts or did they give you your space? Did you find it worth the money (and may I ask what you ended up spending per night? Nosey-rosey me! ;;) ) Did Gloria's husband play the guitar and sing? How far to walk to excellent swimming and snorkeling? How large is Gloria's new pool? That's one of the places I think I'd love to stay.

THanks for sharing! :-)

Happy to share! We loved Gloria's. I had found it on another travel web site and the minute I saw the pictures I couldn't think of staying any place else! I looked at lots of other Kauai options and kept coming back to Gloria's and finally realized that nothing else would do. I initially thought it was on the pricey side ($325/night for September 19-27) but some folks pointed out that it was less than something like the Hyatt would have been. It was intimate, private and unique. While I love the luxury features of the resort hotels, they can feel the same after awhile. So what that there was no one to bring me a Mai Tai or Pina Colada at poolside? Gloria's is a special place!

Food was yummy... there was a great full breakfast every morning and it forced us to get up and start the day early! There was always fresh fruit and juice, a main breakfast dish (like: pancakes, french toast, omelets, banana crepes) and bacon or sausage or ham. Very filling and kept us going most of the day.

The location is gorgeous, waves crashing on the rocks, the Spouting Horn just out of immediate sight, but within hearing some nights. The pool is small (laps possible, relaxing easy!), but since there are only 3 rooms, it was as good as having a private pool to relax in... I did my first snorkeling try there and then felt confident to try some gentle beach snorkeling.

Gloria is delightful, knowledgeable about the island, friendly, happy to advise and not at all hovering or pushy. Bob was there on and off and is very nice too. No! He didn't play guitar for us, we probably should have asked because my husband would have liked to play along with him!

I don't know all the beach names, but there were two good snorkeling beaches close: one within a easy walk by a small protected harbor, the other a short drive (by the Beach House restaurant - this was rougher water, though).

We could walk to the Spouting Horn and the Tropical Gardens.

Our room (www.gloriasbedandbreakfast.com/komohana.html) was even nicer than in the pictures on the web site! No A/C and that had me worried at first, but the breeze when all the windows were open and the ceiling fan running made a blanket necessary overnight.

I'm absolutely delighted with my choice and would recommend it to anyone! I think I booked it back in March or April for our September stay and I don't know how much lead time is needed. They are running about 90% occupancy, I understand.

Gorgeous!

Wow, Donna! You found yourself a fabulous place ... only one more question. I'm going to check the website out again..... Is your particular room shown? I believe they show all three?

It is wonderful to be so pleased with your lodging! I love having a really nice place to come back to at the end of the day! Thank you again! :-) ((r))

Yes... the link that I gave is to the room that we had:

And the picture on their front page is of the view out of that room. Amazing!
