2 Nights in San Francisco ,what will we do?
En route to NYC, from Australia,we have 2 nights/1 full day to see some of your gorgeous city. What is `not to be missed`?I know it`s not long, but that`s what we have.
|
Cable Cars, Alcatraz, Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, Golden Gate Bridge, Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, North Beach(little Italy)

What time of year? Do you like to walk? What interests you?
Have you been before? The sites spiro has listed are all good [I wouldn't spend too much time in FW personally, there are better ways to use your limited time] Do you want to learn about the history of the city? Try a free City Hall tours, go to The Catro district via the historic F trolley. Go to Twin Peaks and see a spectacular view of the city. Are you a 60's person, maybe go to Haight Ashbury if so. |
If it is a good weather day, head out to the Marina Green and walk along the shore past Crissy Field and onward all the way to Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge, then upwards onto the Bridge.

I would look at Stu Dudley's list of what to see and do in San Francisco, and cull from that. (Although I think Alcatraz is a must do if you have enough time, I wouldn't do it with only 1 day....I think you need to do more of a "survey" of San Francisco. In fact, I think it might be a good idea to rent a car, because even though public transportation in San Francisco is excellent, there are places you might want to go that will be easier to get to with a car, and a car will almost always be faster than public transportation). Where are you staying?

Here's a link to Stu Dudley's list. I hope it helps.

Well I sure second the recommendation to go to the search box and pull up Stu Dudley's threads about San Francisco, Susielou. But about renting a car, since you are from Australia have you ever driven on the right hand of the road? If not due to the traffic, the steep hills etc., I wouldn't recommend that unless you have and also if you are use to driving in heavy city traffic. With two nights which means one full day you should be able to explore San Francisco be it by walking or using the public transportation unless there is somewhere that you want to check out that really requires a rental car. Have you made your hotel reservation yet?

Thanks everybody,my computer crashed so just logging in now. Don`t know where we are staying yet, but it will be late Sept.when we get there.Yes I`ve been before,in 1974.We will be happy to use public transport.Debitnm ,you have me right.Perhaps someome can recommend a hotel, 3 women seperate beds $200-300 p.n. preferrably v close to centre. Good cafes and deli`s, and last but not least bars. All ideas welcome.

Do you mean three beds in one room? Difficult. Anyone?
|
No,I was thinking of apartment, or junior suite in a hotel.
