2 nights before cruise from Miami - I'm thinking Key Largo
I have booked flights to arrive in MIA two days before we cruise on Reflection this January.
We have previously spent time in Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale so I was thinking renting a car and staying in Key Largo. We could then drive part way to Key West on the middle day. We did already visit Key West as a cruise stop. Plan right now is a hotel room in Key Largo, likely Holiday Inn. We are not yet retired (close though) and active. Any suggestions for other itineraries or changes, additions to what I propose? Thanks, Nigel

I enjoy John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo. They have a coral reef there and a really interesting glass bottom boat ride they the coral. Very informative and pretty.
This might be a bit out of your way, but Shark Valley in the Everglades is pretty cool. You can either bike the loop or take a tram. Tons of gator and neat landscape.

John Pennenkamp State Park is great. Look at the Hampton Inn in Key Largo. It even has a tiny beach. We stayed there in June on our way to Key West and really enjoyed the glass bottom boat in the park.

I would choose Islamorada. We had a wonderful stay there recently at Cheeca Lodge:
