2 honeymoon nights in San Francisco?

We are planning to wrap up the last two nights of our honeymoon in San Francisco. Should we stay in the Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf area? Any suggestions on romantic hotels/restaurants in either?

Why not Nob Hill? The Fairmont or the Mark Hopkins were wonderful old Grande Dame hotels the last time I was in SF, and the views from the upper rooms are incredible. And nothing beats dinner and drinks at the Top of the Mark...!!

If you're looking for romance, Nob Hill would be my choice. Definitely not Fisherman's Wharf. FW is an ok place, but not very romantic.

Yup,Nob Hill or the Sherman House.

And presuming you're not made of money..... someone posted about getting the St. Francis for a fantastic rate. Would not be a bad choice for a honeymoon.

If I had to pick between the Wharf and Union Square, I'd opt for the Wharf. Union Square is very gritty and rund down. Lots of homeless people and the streets and sidewalks in the area are dirty and smelly.

Fisherman's Wharf, without a doubt. The views are tremendous!

Hotel Monaco is expensive but VERY romantic. A great romantic restaurant is Juluis's Castle (on Nob Hill)!!!

For a dinner you'll never forget, I'd suggest Fleur de Lys on Sutter a few blocks west of Union Square. Not cheap, but excellent food, romantic interior and great service. I'd also suggest Union Square over the Wharf.

I second the MONACO Hotel off Union Square-- and for a romantic dinner- try the 5th floor restaurant in the Palermo Hotel.....

As an SF resident, staying in Fisherman's Wharf is much nicer than Union Square. Union Square is not a desirable part of town to be in, especially at night. Run down neighborhood that has been taken over by homeless druggies and hookers.

FYI - The 5th Floor restaurant is in the Hotel Palomar (not Palermo)
