2 Days in Denver in January...and no car!

I will be spending a few days in Denver the 2nd week of January 2007. My friend, who lives in Denver, is taking me to Winter Park for a day of skiing. However, I have 2 days in Denver where I'll be by myself and without a car, but, I am told, near public transportation. Any thoughts on what to do in the winter in Denver? Most of the posts involve outdoor activities in the spring or summer, but not January. Thanks for any suggestions!

The ski train runs from the downtown station to Winter Park and back on weekends, maybe Fridays sometimes, too. It's a great way to get to the mountains for a ski day. Discount lift passes are sold onboard, too. If you can take advantage of the Ski Train, maybe ask your friend to take you to a different area for that other ski day. Depends on what days you'll be in town.

There's also a light rail system that can get you around Denver, and express buses that go to Boulder and back.

Have you booked your hotel yet, or do you know where you'll be staying in Denver?

Hey, there's only one place to be in Denver in January.... The National Western Stock Show!!!! Here's their schedule: http://tinyurl.com/y9j9xu

You probably can find something of interest. Or just go and walk around. There's lots of critters, big and small, inside and out, farming equipment, and all kinds of booths selling everything you don't really need.

Museum, new art museum, 16th street mall, Molly Brown house? (Depending on the weather, you could possibly even golf!)

Thanks for all quick suggestions!! My friend lives, according to her, "downtown". The National Western Stock Show sounds great, as I love horses. I enjoy outdoor activities, but as I am from the South I am afraid I might freeze to death! I enjoy musuems and horses and history, but as I have never been west of the Mississippi before, I am open to almost anything! Thanks again.

If you're in town during the Stock Show, and you love horses, you can easily spend a full day there. Lots of exhibits, auctions, shows, contests, barbeques, etc.

The Equine Center will have the horse shows, the Stock Show arena will have the rodeo events. It's definitely a taste of the wild west, an authentic rodeo that attracts contestants from Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, etc.
