2 Days In Camden Maine @ A Little Dream
 

Hello!

My fiance and are going to be in Camden Maine next week. We are staying at A Little Dream. We fly into Portland (stay two nights) and then will be driving up. Any suggestions on restaurants (nothing too fancy)? Any neighboring towns we should be exploring? We were hoping to either canoe or kayak during the stay. Some shopping for me would be great too :-) Any help or direction would be wonderful!

Both of you might like to browse the outlet shops in Freeport. When you head to Camden get right on Rt 95 until you get to Brunswick. Then get off onto Rt 1. It will be slower but a more interesting drive.
Camden itself has a few little shops. If you like wine, drive north to Lincolnville and follow signs to Cellar Door Winery for a tasting. View from barn window ought to be nice. Color is starting to come on quickly here in NH. Rockland is also a nice town. It has the Farnsworth Art Museum which features Maine artists. Also nearby is the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Boothbay is also fun to explore.

If you take Rte 1 through Wiscasset (on your way from Portland to Camden), try to time it for lunch so you can get *the best* lobster roll at Red's.

Another vote for Rockland. I also enjoy Bath.

You might enjoy a day sail on one of the schooners if they haven't all gone south for the season.

Any other suggestions on restaurants? A lobster roll at Red's sounds like a great stop on the way!

We have yet to eat a lobster roll at Red's despite spending a week in Wiscasset in 2006. You can read the lobster roll discussions and general foodie tips on chowhound.com for New England. We liked the Sea Basket on Rt 1 in Wiscasset but I think we had clams and scallops that visit. I'm afraid during our summer visits we search out lobster shacks for lunch and since we are camping cook our own. If you like sweets, watch for Steve's Whoopie Pies.

I like Boynton McKay in Camden (next to Lord Camden Inn) for breakfast...the huevos rancheros are especially tasty. They also have wonderful tres leches cake - but not everyday...I think it's just a once in a while type thing.

I like the Waterfront for dinner. Skip the cheese plate, though...you can get the same exact one for probably 50% less at the grocery store and enjoy it at a park overlooking the harbor.
