If you do stay in Port Townsend, bring your passports and take a day trip to Victoria (walk on).
Hurricane Ridge or some other part of ONP?
There are no "through roads" in ONP.

As much as I enjoy Victoria, trying to fit in is simply too much. And the ferry to Victoria from the Peninsula leave from Port Angeles, not Port Townsend.

I doubt that you can get reservations at the Lake Quinault Lodge at this late date, but it is worth a try. Port Townsend is a lovely Victorian Seaport, so well worth a stop.

If you don't have your heart set on ONP, you could consider Whidbey Island instead.

I enjoyed staying at Lake Crescent Lodge. Great place for a nice kayak on the lake (they have rentals).
There is a nice waterfall hike to do a short walk from the lodge.

Loved the hike to Hurricaine Ridge!

Pt Townsend is a great little town to spend some time.

Port Townsend is way too far east if your goal is ONP. Do you have three days you can devote to the park itself? You really need one overnight west of Lake Crescent....Forks, LaPush, Lake Quinault.

We only have Sunday, Monday and need to be back at the airport at 3:00 on Tuesday. How about taking the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge, spend Sunday night at Pt. Townsend, drive to Lake Crescent Monday, spend the day exploring the area Monday and Tues am then head back to the Seattle Airport?? How does that sound?

Nobody's asked when this will be. When will this be?

I wouldn't risk getting from the Olympic Peninsula to Seatac in time to gas up and return a vehicle, shuttle to the terminal and check in. If this is in the summer (which I suspect) then the airport can be very, very busy and security delays can be epic. The State is also embarking on a massive repaving project on I-5 which is going to make our already-awful traffic even worse.

Give us a time frame and the advice will be more realistic.
