It depends on your interests. I have taken both the North End and Chinatown food tours with Michelle Topar's tours. I loved them both. Then you need time to go back shopping. If you want to explore on your own, you can but the tours offer a lot of historical information and food samples.
Since we usually arrive by car, on two visits we have gone first to the John F. Kennedy museum which has free parking and is pretty easy to get to. See if there are any shows you might be interested in seeing and check the half price ticket booth. We usually stop while we're at Quincy Market. I agree that a trolley or even the duck tour is kind of fun to get around. I like to walk around Beacon Hill, Newbury Street, and other neighborhoods just to enjoy the city. Definitely visit the North End even if you don't take a tour. If it's a Friday or Saturday, there will be push cart vendors near Quincy Market. Good place to pick up some fresh fruit. |
Whatever of the above tickles your fancy. Then:
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, especially in bad weather. Museum of Fine Arts Harvard Square and Harvard Yard A walk along the Charles River Esplanade from Charles Street to Mass Ave Trinity Church in Copley Square and the Boston Public Librar across the Square are both architectural masterpieces with tours available Taking the Red Line subway to Cambridge or the Green Line trolley on one of the Above ground sections, especially if you live in a place where middle class people do not use public transportation. The Green Line on Friday and Saturday night is wonderful as you see masses of college students going out, some of them seemingly sophisticated and some just as scared as you were on a first date. A Boston Symphony Orchestra concert or a Boston Baroque concert. |
