2 bedroom suites
 

Hi,
We are 2 couples (in our 50s) who have been travelling together for the last 5 years. I was wondering if any hotels in the DC, Baltimore, and Philly area offer suites with 2 bedrooms? We plan on spending 10 to 14 days visiting these cities. If this type of accomodation is to expensive or simply unavalable can anyone recommend moderately priced inner-city hotels that would afford us a real flavor of the cities.

Actually, you might do a "Google" search on Execu-suites or Ameri-suites or also on timeshares for those areas. Most hotels don't have 2-bedroom suites, however there are short-term furnished apartments that rent out to people who've been transfered to an area until they find something permanent. When they have vacancies, I'm sure they'd rather make them available for tourists who are there for several nights or a week.

I have no idea of the areas you may want to stay, but I just checked the Hilton website for hotels in the DC area...and found a Doubletree Guest Suites that has 2 BR suites. Also, once I stayed in a 2BR suite at the Homewood Suites, but that was in Nashville..Since they do have Homewood Suites in the DC area you may want to call and see if they have 2BR's available.

Check the Doubletree (a Hilton hotel), Radisson Barcelo, Hilton Garden Inn and Embassy Suites. Several of them have 2 bedroom suites, but you may not like the price.

For Philadelphia, I looked at:
Embassy suites, DoubleTree, & Hilton Garden Inn & Hampton Inn for you.
The only one that offers 2BR suites is the Hampton Inn (at the Convention Center). It is right in downtown within walking distance to most sights, and right next to Chinatown.

If you come to the DC area and don't mind staying about 20 minutes out, I can personally vouch for the Summerfield Suites in Gaithersburg. It's an extended stay hotel owned by Wyndham, and we stayed there last September when we were temporarily displaced by Hurricane Isabel. We actually got a two bedroom suite for the price of a one bedroom, $156 per night. Not sure what their rates are now. There was a small sitting room with cable TV and a kitchenette with a full-size fridge, oven and microwave. Both bedrooms had king-sized beds and HUGE bathtubs. Very close to the metro, and I believe they also have a shuttle to the metro station. Plenty of restaurants and shopping are nearby. Summerfield Suites is fairly new, the rooms were in immaculate condition and very quiet. Just ask for a room facing away from 355 and Shady Grove Road. Happy travels!

You should also check www.marriott.com for their Residence Inns. They have wonderful 2 bedroom suites with full kitchens, seperate bathrooms, and in some cases bi-levels with fireplaces. Very nice! They average around $200 per night.

This is just a thought but if you could consider spending a week in Annapolis MD then you'd be convenient to Washington and Baltimore plus have a few days to see Annapolis. You can rent some really nice places through VRBO.com and get the best of all worlds.

There is also a Residence Inn by Marriott in Philadelphia across from City Hall. You might want to check if they have 2 BR suites. it's in a nicer area of downtown than the Hampton Inn.

Hmmm, I like LN's suggestion. We almost used VRBO.com last year to rent a place in Chesapeake Beach, but couldn't get the time off. Rental prices seemed reasonable for the Annapolis area. Deale and Shady Side are close to Annapolis but a little cheaper. Harveyb, you could get a nice-sized condo or even a small house for less than a 2-BR suite at a hotel in DC or Baltimore.
