2-Bedroom Suite on Strip in Vegas?
We are looking for a 2-bedroom suite on the strip in Vegas. We don't want something ridiculously expensive (in fact, we're hoping one 2-bedroom suite might be cheaper than two individual rooms). Would like to be no further south than New York/MGM and not too far north. Any suggestions?

Prices in Vegas are dictated by conventions. You don't mention when you plan this trip so it is hard to recommend anything. By the way, what is ridiculously expensive to one may be dirt cheap to another, so you also need to define budget requirements.
Go to each and every hotel website and look at their rates for suites, then look at their individual room rates. If you see something that works then take reserve it. The "cheaper" hotels would be places I would not stay in, i.e. Frontier, Stratesphere, Circus Circus .... if you want mid-strip you will no doubt have to pay alot more. |
You're right, Lori - I should have added more information. We're looking at going for a long weekend in June - probably June 21-24. There's 4 of us, so we have a decent budget for the room, but (assuming we go the 2-bedroom suite route), we wouldn't want to spend more than $450 a night (normal rooms seem to be going for around $200 that weekend). We are definitely interested in something like MGM, New York New York, Paris, Mirage, Monte Carlo, etc. rather than the "cheap" Vegas hotels. On the strip is a must. I looked on Expedia and also on some of the individual hotel websites - I found a lot of 1-bedroom suites, but no 2-bedrooms, which is where I was hoping y'all could help me. Thanks in advance!

Go with two connecting rooms...there just aren't enough 2bd suites on the strip to make them affordable. At that time in June, room rate specials should be plentiful, the deals will probably pop up in late April...but check the specials sections at treasureIsland.com and flamingolv.com, they might have their June calendars up already and you can get a good idea of what prices will be like.

I agree with tracy2cents. I've done online searches for 2 bedroom suites before and most hotels don't advertise them. The only ones I recall seeing were on the Mirage and MGM web sites. I looked up the Mirage rates for your dates and it listed a rate of $2,205 for the 3 nights. Asking for adjoining rooms or rooms on the same floor would be much more affordable.

I'd opt for 2 rooms after reading your second post. There are not alot of 2-bedroom suites advertised. I assume hotels have them for the high-rollers, celebs, etc. (and even more then 2 bedroom suites for that matter) but they are mostly not marketed to the normal clientele.
A smaller sized suite may only have 1 bathroom, which if you get two rooms you are assured of 2 bathrooms. June may not be totally convention free, it seems there are less and less times when you can get rates that look like "bargains" anymore. |
A 2 bedroom suite will almost always cost considerably more than 2 rooms- since it gives you 2 bedrooms - and usually a guest powder room with the living room. There are so few since they are so expensive.
Just concentrate on 2 rooms and you'll get a better deal. |
You may want to look at the Carriage House. It is 1/2 block behind The MGM Grand. It is not a gaming hotel, but it is within about 3 minutes walking distance to the back entrance to the MGM. They have full apartment type suites with one or two bedrooms. It is nice to have the full living room and kitchen if you have a few people traveling together. I have stayed there a few times while attending conventions.

Thanks for the tips. Unless any of the Vegas casinos consider our $100 a day gambling budget "high rolling," looks like we'll stick with two rooms. Thanks!

If you don't mind not staying at a casino, you could try the Jockey Club. I have a friend who stayed once.

You may want to look into timeshare type places (do you want a condo?). Possibly Jockey Club is a timeshare? I've also heard about Polo Towers and Carriage House.

Jockey Club and Polo Towers are both timeshares. So is Summer Bay. All are very close to the Vegas Strip, but you'll likely have to find an owner to rent a week from.
