1st visit to Fenway Park-

Will a cloudy/rainy day keep the crowds away on a Saturday? Think I can find a single ticket for $25-30?

bennie May 16th, 2003 08:46 AM

Nothing keeps the fans away. But you may still find a ticket from a scalper. Who the competition is will dictate how much you pay. But try the box office too. Avoid the right field grandstand seats. They are horrible. Left field is better. - though 2 sections of left field grandstands are "family sections" - no drinking allowed in those seats. Bring a seating diagram with you so you know what you're buying.

Try this site as well lots of people selling tickets.
http://boston.craigslist.org/tix/
If you only want to play 25-30 you wont find much. Almost all of the seats face value are 20+.
Stand outside the box office their are
people always stuck with a extra ticket
trying to sell it. Or wait till game time with the sclapers and they drop thier prices.
It could snow 20" and it would not keep the crowds away!!! WE are loyal fans!

Fenway used to let people in for free after the 7th inning if you just want to see the ballpark. You may just want to check that this is still the policy. Also, who the Red Sox are playing will also dictate the availability and price of tickets. Yankee tickets are hard to come by.

Thanks..for the ideas! I'll budget $40 and see what happens.I know with WS champ Angels in town, demand might be high....I'll post trip report either late Sat once I'm back in ATL or Sunday!

Try eBay. I got my husband & son tickets to a sold out game there a couple of years ago. I paid over face value but it was worth every penny! They STILL talk about Fenway...baseball heaven!

Randyforgt May 18th, 2003 07:13 PM

Well I'm back in ATL after a really Saturday at Fenway.Found a single right rooftop ticket for $37-face value!...Getting around on the T was easy, like earlier visits. The Fenway expierence was something else! As far as the old parks go,I've done several games at Wrigley and one game at Tiger and both were really interesting, but I'd have to say Fenway is right up there, maybe a better total game day expierence. And wow those sightlines you get there. And seeing the Green monster was a real rush.I look foward to my next visit. And next time I'll make sure I stop by Legal Seafoods for some of that great Chowder!

If you can't find a ticket, they have tours every morning of the entire park. You ca get the info @ RedSox.com ,the website has ticket info too. Go Red Sox!

Randyforgt - glad you had a good visit to Fenway. I personally have a love/hate relationship with the place. Its old, full of history, memories, heartbreak. Almost all seats offer a great view with some notable exceptions. But on the other hand its old, it smells bad, the bathrooms are horrible, the food is bad but getting better. I do wish they would build a new park.

Did you see Trot give the ball away too soon?

Chrissy4 May 20th, 2003 08:57 AM

randyforgt - where did you end up getting your ticket - a scalper outside the park?

My husband & I live in the area and would like to catch a game, but I'm afraid to buy fake tickets or get busted (isn't scalping illegal?). We also don't want to pay much over face value. Best to try the box office right around game time or after it's underway?

Also, try to buy your tickets to a game early in the season. Earlier the better. The longer you wait towards later in the season, the greater chance that the quality of baseball will suck.

'THEY" say there are always a few tickets available game day..wonder if there are any for the game today with the Yankees. they break out hearts every year.. but at least they seem to be a different and better team this year...don't you think? Oh yes, I wish I could tell Trot I forgive him...he's only human.

bennie May 20th, 2003 11:13 AM

ParrotMOm - The mother in me just wanted to give Trot a hug - the poor guy. Felt like I was watching one of my daughters strike out in softball. Of course, they're only kids and Trot's a millioniare but you still feel for the guy.

You can still purchase single seats on www.redsox.com, and what we do is go to the standing room section or look for 2 empty seats. That way you don't pay more than face value and you can still sit or stand together.

Bennie....I hear you on the memories being both good and bad. Most fans will discuss the 75 WS and Fisk's HR,but just as vivid of a memory for me was the 1978 one game playoff vs the Yanks-a bitter loss for Sox fans! I agree some renovations are needed, from what I saw in the concession areas, esp.I love the older parks, these new parks are all so squeaky clean and sterile!

Randyforgt May 21st, 2003 08:09 AM

Oh yea Bennie I saw Trot habd the ball to that youngster in the crowd! wow..Chrissy...found a single while waiting at Gov't center T....from a group of 3 guys!
