1st trip to HI - need help deciding where to go

Hi,

We are planning to go to Hawaii for 2 weeks for our honeymoon in November 07. We are using frequent flyer miles for our flight to HI and need to pick where to fly into. We like to hike and sight see but are not really beach goers. We would love to hear any recommendations.

Rule of thumb:

7 nights or less - 1 island
8-10 nights - 1 or 2 islands
11-14 nights - 1 or 2 or 3 islands

Lots of info:

Sounds like Kauai might fit the bill here!
But if you want more 'action' socially, Maybe the Big Island - lots of hikes available on both.

ITA with OSB, on the big island and Kauai. 1 week on each would be perfect.

I would do the Big Island and Oahu. There's a lot of fun things to do on Oahu, as well as the beauty of nature. I think that would be a perfect combo for a honeymoon.

Elsiemoo is right on the money. Our family knows the islands incredibly well. Take it from Californians who consider the islands their second home. The Big Island and Oahu are your answer.

As one who was lucky enough to have a 6 week honeymoon in Hawaii, I would pick the Big Island and Kauai. We have since gone back to Kauai many times.
The scenery is beautiful especially the North Shore and Waimea Canyon is spectular. I worked in Oahu for a year, but would not be sure that would be my first choice for a honeymoon because of the crowds.

If you enjoy hiking, Waimea Canyon on Kaua'i offers some spectacular hikes with breathtaking views. Ditto the Maha'eulepu area in Poipu. There is of course the 2 mile, day hike portion of the Kahalau trail with the spur trail up to the falls. I recommend the book, "Day Hikes on Kaua'i" by Robert Stone.

There's no wrong answer here. For me, for a honeymoon, and first trip, I suggest 1 week each on Maui and Oahu.

If you don't like beaches, why not go to Europe for your honeymoon?

I thought about hiking at Waimea after I wrote my post. Then, I thought about the beauty of Kauai and how romantic it is because of that beauty and the remote feeling you get when you're on that island. It's such a good suggestion.
