I don't believe people were "forcing" the OP to do anything. Fodorites were simply giving their advice about what they thought was best - which is why you get on fodors. I also think that not everybody is aware that there are really great national parks nearby. I didn't for a long time but once I was aware, I wish someone had told me earlier.

Am I correct in assuming that you are locked into the timeshare for 7 nights? IMHO, I would cancel the last 3 nights at MGM and spend the time at Bryce, Zion, or the GC by booking accommodations there. While you are in LV, Red Rocks & Valley of Fire are day trips.

Have fun. As long as you are relaxing at a resort & you enjoy that, it doesn't matter if you are in LV or any where else.

Cira,

There is a double decker bus that goes up and down las vegas blvd that's called deuce and it's really cheap so you hop on it then off in certain stops along the way (not at eaach hotel but close to it) but this will let you get all the way to stratosphere and then all the way to mandalay bay. Here's more about it:

There is also the las vegas monorail but can be more expensive.

Then there's also the rail system between certain casinos that are free.

Here's a good link of transportation options in Vegas:

The length of time in Vegas is immaterial, it all depends on what you are doing, we like to spend quite a while there so we can chill out at the pool all day, eat when we want at a different restuarant every night, meander up and down the strip looking at people as well as Casinos. Another good thing about Vegas is that it is the safest place I have ever been, I have never felt threatened or uneasy due to the unseen security around. There are not that many places you can walk about at 2 or 3 in the morning and feel safe! I also highly recommend the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon.
