you might consider the Hilton Arlington at Ballston. It is directly next to the Ballston metro stop, and also connects to Ballston shopping mall via a covered elevated walkway. I put up out of town visitors there recently. It was clean, convenient, and $70 per night on weekend. Via metro it will take about 15 min to D.C. The neighborhood is safe, with several restaurants closeby including IHOP.
