14 Year Old Teen - Grand Canyon/Vegas
My husband, so and I are looking for a vacation during my son's spring break. We look at leaving from PA on March 24, returning on the 30th. We want to go someplace warmer then here : ).I think there would be enough in Vegas for my son for a couple of days and my husband would like the Grand Canyon (and maybe some poker)...Some additional info - looking to spend in the neighborhood of $2500 to $3000 for everything and my son loves luxury (the two don't quite mesh. Fly into Grand Canyon area and stay 2 days, then drive to Vegas. I like the Hard Rock since it's young and not too overwhelming and the diner has really good food and reasonable (and it would have food my son would like). Suggestions on hotels and show(s)?

My son was 14 when we went to Vegas on Spring break last year. It was a little later and therefore probably a little warmer. If you have done a search you will see that I gush about the JW Marriott. It really was the perfect place for us. I understand about your son liking luxury. Mine is the same. I tell him he is truly spoiled rotten. We didn't do the Grand Canyon but instead went to Bryce on a day trip. Our kids loved Mystere but weren't at all impressed by the strip.

Before you go any further - define "warmer" than PA. While both places would be, according to weather.com average high temp for March in LV is only 69, and for South Rim Grand Canyon (only Rim open in March), it is in the 50s - warmer than PA, but perhaps not what you had in mind.
I also wonder what a kid would do in LV during the day, even if you found some kid-appropriate shows or attractions at night. We spent one night there with 12 and 16 year olds 2 summers ago and after the pool closed, there was not much they were interested in.
Did you not in an earlier post think about a cruise? I would suggest you revisit that idea.

Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon can get snow in March.
Whether or not Las Vegas is for kids, I'll leave that decision up to the parents, BUT PLEASE do not leave him along to go do things on his own in that city!

Thanks for everyone's reply. Of course our son would be with us 24x7. Actually my husband and I are not big gamblers, but my son and I were reviewing some of the options - he really likes the multiple roller coasters! I got a video of the Grand Caynon to view this week and see if that helps. (and yes, I did post about a possible cruise as another option, but my head was swimming with people trashing and praising the same cruise...)
