No, I think that is an elitist view to belittle someone because of what they pay for a hangbag.

It is just as bad as judging someone for cheap shoes or not being able to afford a nice car.

Visiting that "coalition's" website for info is like listening to Rush Limbaugh for news.

Biased rubbish.

I wonder if Anna Wintour's daughter has a fake Louis Vuitton purse?

Poor Bea, showing up at Dalton with an ersatz bag, only to have the Drexel twins (Muffy's young cousins) mock her.

"You're off the pep squad, Boney, until you can snag one of your mom's Goyard St. Louis totes!"

The trials and tribulations of a 13-year-old are as old as the universe.

'Tis a tad disconcerting when self-righteous ignoramuses try to put a guilt-trip on tourists.

And don't get me started on that nauseating debacle that sullied Central Park ... history is my vindication ... it has become a punchline for tacky, pointless excess.

I did not belittle anyone. No my MO. If that's the way you want to spend your money, fine. My friends carry Coaches, I choose not to. But, yes, I think women feel "pressured" to carry designer bags and wear those clothes, etc. Just like they are pressured to be thin.

Oh The Gates!

I still have a lovely peice of orange fabric from The Gates!

What a peice of artwork!

What a monument to orange!

What a courageous use of resources!

Calling someone brainwashed and controlled because they spend money on handbags isn't belittling?

This is the second time in a week where I've felt that threads turned into arguments because people are more concerned with having the last word, or convincing others that their opinion is the right one, rather than weighing in and leaving it at that. Is it just me, or are things changing around here, with a more indignant and unpleasant atmosphere?

No. I said "women who THINK they have to spend over 300 dollars". That's different than "women who want"
The problem for so many in our society is that they see Paris Hilton and the like and think they must dress that way. It's an age old problem. I don't care how much anybody spends on anything, GoT. Some might say I spend an exorbitant amount on travel and really ought to dress more stylishly. <wink>

sfamylou, so what you're saying is that if someone weighs in with an opinion, then someone else belittles them for that or misquotes them or insults them, they should not return to try to clarify their original comments? Sometimes "the last word" is simply trying to defend or explain yourself when someone has totally twisted your words or ignored your basic point.

Oh god. Yawn. At least the fake bag hawkers are working instead of peeing on the side of my building and looking for a hand out. Buy the bag.

Do you feel the same about the local crack deal, that at least he has a job?

apples & oranges, hypocrite .. or do you never jaywalk or exceed the speed limit?

surely someone of your intelligence can see the difference between, say, jaywalking & murder? yeah?

then how about selling Rolexx's and dealing crack?

see the difference?

kudos!

Gekko, why do you care so much about this?

I would never buy a fake because they are so glaringly obvious fakes.

I have a girlfriend that proudly uses her fake Prada all the time and is really cheap plastic and metal.

She actually thinks that people think it is real.

LLindaC~would you be a dear and pick me up another Kate Spade stick on label when you are on Canal Street? Mine fell off my "bag" a few months after I bought it

BTW~the Kate Spade bag I picked out and carried around turned out to be the
"diaper bag" model much to my amusement.

"If you have another explanation as to why HS would be involved, I'd love to hear it."

Maybe the fashion council is a major contributor to political campaigns.

That is a much more logical reasons of why HS is involved then the almost absurd "terrorism" connection.

Ask your friend, didn't HS open up personal mail from Canada because they didn't want people buying (FDA approved) medicine from across the border?
Drug companies are also big contributors.

LLindaC- my daughter also wanted a knockoff from NY and looking at all the stuff was loads of fun so enjoy your time regardless of where you stand on the debate.

Having said that - and to contribute another wrinkle - I know I saw a news report on the major TV stations in Los Angeles about the raids they were doing on the CUSTOMERS of the fakes in Venice Beach. The story was that the police ARE going after customers who knowingly buy illegal fakes and charging them - just as they charge the johns in prostitution cases, under the theory that you eliminate the market by prosecuting the customer and getting rid of the demand.
That actually did stop me from buying a knockoff purse for my daughter.
Anyone else hear this or know for sure if it is legal to buy but illegal to sell fakes?
