12 hrs in LV on a Sat. Night....

in July. Stopping over both ways to break up an east coast to Hawaii trip. On the way out we need a room overnight. Probably arriving after 10 pm and then leaving before 10 am. It would be nice to be close enough to the strip to roam a little before bed. Didn't realize that room rates were that much higher on Saturday nights. Our needs are simple, clean, close, reasonable. No problem on the back journey, it's mid week. Any suggestions?

The LV airport is very close to downtown -- about a 10 minute cab ride. So you can stay pretty much anywhere on or near the Strip and still be close to the airport.

If budget is a concern, look for hotels just off the Strip. I can't suggest any by name (I've always stayed on the Strip), but I know there are lots of hotels on the streets adjacent to the Strip.

I highly recommend using Hotwire. It allows you to select your location (on Strip, near East/West Strip, etc.) and often offers great prices.

I always stay at the San Remo...decent property at the corner of the strip next to Tropicanna, MGM, excalibur, and NYNY... you can also jump on the monorail behind MGM for free transport down the strip...

I"m not as young as I used to be but the first thing that came to mind was, why get a room at all? If your flight doesn't arrive until after 10pm you'll have less than 12 hours in Vegas. Why not keep your luggage checked at the airport and take advantage of one of the cities that stays open 24/7? You can always try to sleep on the flight the following morning!

Stay at Barbary Coast. Great location, close to everything, and easy to get back to the airport without driving down the strip, rates are reasonable.

I'm with karenvk...

Stay up and sleep on the way home! If that is not in the "cards" for you....

It depends on your budget, with that limited time and wanting to wander your choices are the strip or downtown. I would recommend Orleans for cost but not much wandering out of the property available. How about a room at the Golden Nugget on Fremont? Lots of easy wandering/roaming possible.

Couple more $$ pop for the NYNY or Monte Carlo and hang out at the corner of LV Blvd and Tropicana.

there is a super 8 hotel that is usually cheaper then the strip hotels but it is about a 3 block walk on koval behind bally's. it's not a bad walk but if you are tired...it can seem a ways. i might try last minute on a room at the flamingo - if they aren't full which i doubt they would be in july, they might have a decent rate. or barbary coast is a good suggestion.

Super 8 on Koval might be your only choice....most places won't take a Saturday check-in until day of arrival if rooms are still empty.

The posters are all correct, I would add that if you are getting in for only 12 hours being on the strip would better serve you though if you really want to "roam a little". Cab rides aren't bad but staying mid strip would make your plan much easier! The hotels are just so big!
