115 this weekend in Las Vegas!!!

Hi everyone: We're goint to Vegas this weekend and the temp. is supposed to be 115!!!! I guess we'll be indoors most of the time now. We're staying at Bally's in the new tower. At least Bally's is connected to The Paris Hotel and that isn't far from The Aladdin where we'll be seeing Society of Seven on Sun. night. Anyway, we're looking forward to getting away for a few days and plan to have a great time regardless of the heat.

I shouldn't have bothered to preview my message since I misspelled going. LOL.

Hi Sunshine!

Have fun in Vegas....don't worry about the 115 degree, it wont feel that bad because of the low, low humidity....

Now being in FL today with 97 degrees and almost 100% humidity....It is almost unbearable to walk the dog :)

sunshine Jul 9th, 2003 01:25 PM

Thanks Carib!! Keep cool in Fl. I've never been there but have heard about the humidity from a friend in Ft. Lauderdale.

Nosy Jul 9th, 2003 01:27 PM

We were there in '01 for the 4th of July with similar temps, and believe me it feels hot even with low humidity. We managed to walk the whole strip a few times, ducking into casinos and taking advantage of their misting machines quite often. Drink lots of water! Have fun.

sunshine Jul 9th, 2003 01:29 PM

Thanks Nosy. I hope there will be LOTS of the misting machines this weekend!!!!!

Hi,
I'm not saying it's cold in Vegas this time of year, Of course it's hot, it's Vegas..... I found I was MUCH more comfortable in Vegas

Just wanted to ease some worries

I'm sorry, but 115 is 115. IT'S FREAKING HOT!!! I don't care about humidity at that point, and believe me I know humidity, I do live in Florida. I did experience Vegas oven few years ago, and I'm sorry, dry or not, IT'S FREAKING HOT!
On that note, have a wonderful trip! :-)
Vegas still rules!!!!! Love that town!!

Kristy Jul 9th, 2003 01:35 PM

Usually they have water misters poolside that brings the temp down some 20 degrees, helps alot!

The great thing about Vegas is you really don't have to go out if you don't want! Shopping, eating, gambling, spas, shows...all usually under one roof!

FainaAgain Jul 9th, 2003 01:36 PM

The tour buses are all air conditioned, and they pick you up at the hotel and bring back.

Thanks to all of you for your replies and suggestions.

Yes, CaribRuby, we are hot!! and no rain in PB County! TV says it's 90, ha, it feels like 190.

We're going to LV on Sept. 4th-hot or not so hot? I think I will still not walk around - Taxis, start lining up.

Chele60 Jul 9th, 2003 02:23 PM

Have to agree - 115 is HOT! Humidity or no, it is still hot. Crossing 100 is like crossing 0 in that you feel it instantly. Anything over 100 is like being in an oven.

Still, as long as you know ahead of time and prepare, you can maintain a good attitude and that is all that matters. Hope you have a great time!

clairelong Jul 9th, 2003 02:46 PM

That thing about the humidity...b.s.! Sorry, we were there last year this time and it was around the same temp...the heat comes off that concrete and i mean you can hardly breathe, you can hardly stand to be outside...you're trying desperately to look for water fountains to throw water on your face. The best time to walk was very early in the morning and even then it was 90 degrees.

Karen1230 Jul 9th, 2003 05:46 PM

Hi Sunshine..I live in Las Vegas and right now it is 6:45PM and still 112 out there! Just be sure to drink lots and lots of water, slather on the sunscreen, and wear a hat! Enjoy our city! Good Luck in the casinos..be sure to pack a sweater though..even though is burning hot out the casinos and restaurants can be really cold!

sunshine Jul 9th, 2003 06:27 PM

Thanks Karen. I forgot about how cold it will be indoors. Do you like living in Las Vegas? We had thought about retiring there, but neither one of us cares for such hot weather.

hotandsweaty Jul 9th, 2003 06:32 PM

my two cents- honestly it is HOT, but the difference between 4th of july weekend in the 110's and two weeks before at 106 was unnoticeable- in fact, we felt cooler in the hotter weekend and still cannot figure out why (i think the sun was not as strong and there were lots of breezes in the desert where we stayed off strip)...in fact, we were sunbathing in the noonday sun and saying "this doesn't feel hot at all" that said when we went to the strip, even at 11:30 at night it was ac or nothing...too hot to even watch the fountain! just dress cool and light and wear open shoes if you can...

travleis Jul 9th, 2003 06:56 PM

The highest temp EVER recorded in LV was 116 (according to weatherbase).

For CaribRuby, I'm sure you were just exaggerating for effect, but it is impossible to have a temp over 90 and humidity over 90 simultaneously in Florida. Has never happened.
For example: an air temp of 95 and humidity of 90 yields a heat index (perceived temperature) of 141 degrees!

Karen1230 Jul 9th, 2003 07:51 PM

Hi Sunshine..yes I love it here! And the heat isn't really that unbearable. You really do get used to it after awhile. Being from the Miswest though, I do have to say I miss October in Michigan! One other thing..don't forget your sunglasses!

BrimhamRocks Jul 10th, 2003 01:13 AM

travleis, I can tell you for a fact that, science or no science, southern Louisiana feels like 200% humidity on some days. Sometimes all you have to do is literally just walk outside, and you are instantly, completely and utterly, soaked with sweat, and it's hard to breathe because the air feels so thick.

I've actually never been anywhere that just had 'dry heat'. That must be a novel thing!

Have a great time in Vegas, sunshine!
